This perturbs me to no end. I had WesMod installed, along with the 1.1 patch, previously and, though I always received the 'ArabInfantry' error message, the game worked fine.

Last night I got hit by a virus and wound up having to re-install the OS and everything else. When I installed Medieval and the patch and WesMod, I now received a 'CrusaderGendarme' error message. I get to the menu and choose a period (Early) and Byzantium, but, when the game loads thereafter I get a 'beep' and a new error message saying it tried to place a unit in a country not of its origin.

I've uninstalled and re-installed everything three times and get the same result. Any suggestions? Thanx~

Go into the actual directory of total war, and look for anything that shouldn't be there. Old txt files in Campmap and startpos, so on. Just check for that.
I didn't write criticizing. I wrote criticised. Which is correct, unless you're trying to raise some bizzare nationalist argument; the kind of stupidity requiring some smarts to begin with.

I think you have installed version 2.04 over a MTW 1.1? For MTW 1.1 you need version 1.85. 2.04 is for the Viking Invasion upgrade.

I got an email the other day from Nelson referring to a similar problem. Here is what he got from his log file:

"Errors for session started: Sat Aug 02 10:49:03 2003
    C:\Med_Patch\ Crusaders_TW\historical_campaigns_menu.cpp(922) : File Error : fopen("Battle\batinit\historical campaigns\unlock.cht", "rb") - "No such file or directory"(2)
    C:\Med_Patch\Crusaders_TW\historical_campaigns_menu.cpp(922) : File Error : fopen("Battle\batinit\historical campaigns\unlock.cht", "rb") - "No such file or directory"(2)"

I didn't notice before, but the error message refers to Historical Campaigns. I know the mod doesn't work with the Tutorial, but I can't remember if there was a conflict with the Historical Campaigns.

I have gone through the mod from head to toe, and I can't find anything that would cause a problem with the Crusader Gendarmes unit.

The 1.85 version currently at my webpage has a deadpage coord text that is lacking the CrusaderTeutonicSergeants entry. Apolyton seems to have gone down again, but you can simply copy the section for TeutonicSergeants and tack on the Crusader prefix. This mistake was made when I corrected the Arab Infantry error, so if you are still getting the Arab Infantry message, then you have an earlier version which does not contain the Teutonic Sergeant omission.

The currently posted version also has some erroneous GameEnd bifs, but I can't see how this would relate to a unit error.

The placement error message occurs when there is a conflict between the startpos (campaign) file and the units text. This would only occur if you selected the original campaign file and tried to use it with the Medmod units text, or vice versa. I had a lot of trouble with this kind of error when I was putting the mod together, but those bugs were worked out in early Spring.

If you wanted to check your files, you can scan the units text for the Crusader units appended to the end, and the Early campaign file for all the buildings I added to that section to enable Fuedal Knights immediately (it's near the bottom).

I'll admit to screwing some stuff up with the 1.85 file after I got into making the 2nd version, but I just don't know what would be causing these particular errors.

Btw, if you still have the 1.84 version- use it instead. There is virtually no difference between it and v1.85, and it's guaranteed to be clean.

EDIT: Sometimes the error messages will refer to the line number or province where the error is occuring. If I knew this, it would probably solve the problem.

I have just uploaded a new 1.85 exe which corrects the two errors with the deadpage file and the game end bifs. I don't know if this will solve the error messages, but you can try it.

    BDC...

It's the 1.85 version, but thanks for thinking about my problem.

    Wes...

I'll do a clean install of the game and download your newest mod version. Many thanks and I'll let you know what happens.

    Wes....

After a clean install, and having used the version (1.85) now at your site, I received NO error messages and flowed right into the game without a problem. Many thanks.

To clarify my original problem, that virus forced me to format my drive so I had to download your mod again. I probably was using the old version before.

Again, thanks to all of you who replied
