Does anyone know the awards given to military leaders and soldiers of war? Also would you know the specific reason for each award....i.e. US Military gives purple heart for being wounded in battle.
Here are some awards/pins/honors/laurels that I've found but they might not be totally correct and invite others to enlighten me.
silver spear: for killing a man in single combat
silver encrusted shield: for holding hotly contested ground against odds.
Corona Civica (crown of oak leaves: For saving the lives of comrades and holding the ground where you saved them.
Corona Muralis: a gold crown with a crenellated battlement awarded for being the first man to over the walls of an enemy town/city.
Corona Vallaris: a gold crown awarded for being the first man into an enemy camp.
I'm also curious as to what awards could be given to the individual legions, cohorts. I also know that these might have differed depending on era. If era is a problem lets say between the time of Gaius Marius to Gaius Julius Caesar.
