Anyone else notice how the Byzantine can lose their entire empire, but still cruise at high influence for generations after? On the other hand, my King dies and i'll lose half of my influence. I know wins/losses in battle and crusades affect Influence, as well as a few events. But there must be something more then that affecting it as well. Or do some nations just get higher influence?

some nations such as the byzantines do higher influence at the start of the game due to historical factors the byzantine emporer is considered to be heir to the throne of rome this also affects things like the hre and the pope all these are very influencial because in history these were the influential people.

And often does kings with good stats have a high influence and the byzantines got one of the best blood lines of all nations.
Atleast it has seemed that way for me.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?
