Don't want to cause any trouble but I find this form of restrictive posting very patronising. There's threads in the R:TW Forum I'd love to get into a discussion about but simply can't because of this restrictive system.
Yep, your boards you can run it how you want. But I really think you might be turning a lot of people with valuable ideas and input away. I participate in a lot of other game Forii and none have a system like this.
It's unnecessary.
Norman, you aren't the first to state such an opinion. Here are two classic posts from a new patron by the name of Incornata which illustrate why we have this system:

These are examples of the kind of person we are trying to screen out. Many new patrons have complimented us on how friendly these forums are. The old patrons like it that way too and do a fine job of keeping them friendly. The system is only as much of an incovenience as you are will to make of it. Any and all topics are allowed in this forum and you will find many veteran patrons and highly skilled TW players/modders visit this forum regularly.
Please stick around, participate and before you know it you will have access to the other forums.

People with valuable ideas and input will probably make the effort to become a member of these excellent forums. On the other hand people who don't have much to say probably only think this system limit their highly intellectual posting and can't see the benefits of the difference between patrons and members.
And what is one or two weeks waiting when you will become a member for years? Besides Gregoshi and the other modders are more than helpfull in assisting kind patrons with moving responses to the corresponding topics in restricted forums.

Norman, I confess I also found the posting restrictions rather patronising, although they came in after I had already been given the privilege to post in other halls.
But if it is any consolation, I don't find the level of discussion in the entrance hall to be any lower than in the other halls - if anything, you get more new ideas here, as people having not seen it all and done it all. Plus you can be off-topic and on-topic in the same hall, which kind of cuts down on transactions costs.
The other point to make is that this org is by far the best natured forum I have encountered. Perversely, other places that do not openly discriminate against newbies often seem to give them a tougher time or have bitter flame wars with abrasive entrants. Despite fierce debates about the war in Iraq or whether knights were underpowered (!, things are pretty good natured at the org. Whether the posting restrictions have anything to do with this, I don't know but the fact is at least a consolation for them.
Stratagos Desaix... it changes periodically and is based on quantity of posts, until you reach 500 posts... from that point you can select a picture from the Org database... other aspects that are customisable can be found in your control panel/ personal info/ avatar options and edit your profile. The control panel can be accessed by clicking on the button located under the picture at the top of the page.
