Moderators, this is a reply to a similarly named post from the Dungeon. Thanks

    Hello Nag.,

I have a recommendation for you regarding the Russian provinces in your mod. Run off to your University library and pick up a copy of Tacitus' Germania (or find the text on the web). There is a section in the Germania where he talks about all the peoples in that big scary area to the North. There may very well be a map available in some edition. This would be extremely helpful. Tacitus has quite a list of barbarians and their geographic relationship to each other. His work would represent Roman knowledge of that part of the world in the 1st century AD.

Additionally, while you are in the library, check out any books you can find on the Germanic migrations. A good scholarly book on the subject might have a map detailing where individual tribes might have originated.

This should get you a long way towards your map. Just name your non-Roman provinces after the prevalent tribes and peoples in the region. You'll still have to probably fudge things a bit in the extreme east.

NOW, I'm not sure from your post exactly what the time frame is going to be for the different sections of your mod. Your initial factions look fun. The Germanians would be Germans or Germani.

    A few suggestions for units:

Celtic warriors: Based on the shirtless loon bif. Big sword. Big shield (sadly they only have round shields on the bif). Charges hard. Low defense. Low morale.

Germanic warriors: Based on the shirtless loon bif. Spears. Big shield. Decent morale. Perhaps just a slower tougher version of the slav warriors unit.

Higher grade Celtic warriors might look good with the Viking bif. Higher grade Germans might look good with the Huscarle bif. Some Celts would have been armored quite early. In fact, the Romans probably mimicked the Celts in their use of mail. Germans didn't start wearing armor till the migration period - and then probably only bodyguard comitatus.

Hope that helps. More later if you want.
