barocca,

I've modified my hero to the historical figure from whom I took my name. The only reason my online name in Sanada Yuuki is that Yukimura was already taken. Yukimura means "snow village".

Sanada Yukimura (1570 or 67? to May 7, 1615) fought against the Tokugawa at the Battle of Sekigahara and again at the Seige of Osaka Castle.

Oridinally the family was allied with Takeda, then later Oda and lastly Toyotomi, but could also be considered ronin. The territories they held after the decline of Takeda are not represented in the game as separate provinces.

V&V Fine Leader (+4 morale, +2 loyalty)

1567 - Sanada Yukimura is born the second son of Motô Kihei (Sanada Masayuki) at Koufu, Kai province. He became leader of the Sanada family which allied with Toyotomi Hideyori and fought against Tokugawa Ieyasu. His strategems in Toyotomi's last battles against Tokugawa are famous still, but he nevertheless wound up on the losing side of the war. History does not record what happened to him after Hideyori's defeat and suicide in 1615.

Historical note:

Toyotomi Hideyori, 1593-1615, was the son and designated successor of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the general who first united all of Japan and who had served under Oda Nobunaga. Hideyoshi (1536-1598), the homeless son of a peasant, originally had no family name.

However, Hideyoshi died in 1598 and his armies lost the Battle of Sekigahara to Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1600, who then seized power. Continuing to view the young Hideyori as a potential threat, Ieyasu attacked Hideyori in the Siege of Osaka in 1614. The attack failed, but Hideyori was induced to sign a truce and dismantle the defenses of his stronghold Osaka Castle.

In 1615, Ieyasu betrayed the truce and attacked again. Hideyori was forced to flee to the mountains, where he committed suicide at the age of 22, putting an end to the Toyotomi clan and paving the way for the 250-year Tokugawa Shogunate.
