It's where you have to do loads of clicking to get units to do what you want, and you'll move each unit individually rather than grouped etc.

    skull,

basically, it means doing everything yourself, every tiny action, every little bit of positioning, everything.

a good example of micro-managing is the deployment phase of stw. you can pick one of the pre-set formations or even just hit the begin button and let the game assign all of your men to various positions or you can set where you want each man yourself. the latter is micro-managing. you're handling every little detail yourself rather than letting something or someone else do it.

MM isn't so hard. I use both MM and mass commands depending my opponent and even if l feel bored of eager to CA(chop ass).
The most honorable thing to do though is mass attack!!! So MM is not the thing.
Notice: You could change the battle music with a kamikazi voice!!! or Bonzai!!!. That would be very funny!

Micro-managing is what gets me killed when playing humans in multiplayer mode. By the time I've assessed my opponent's forces and arranged a "killer" formation, his front lines are upon me and my plan dissolves. The only battles I've won are the ones where I've used pre-set formations and "group" the troops.

One handy bit of info I eventually learned was that I could do my groupings whilst "waiting for deployment to end".

It's most useful when attacking in single player really.

I play exactly the same way KukriKhan. I play best in single player because you can pause the game. In multiplayer, trying to convince everyone to stop attacking you for a second so you can have a think doesn't really go down well.

In an effort to counter this, I have found guidance in the teachings and applications of Zen Art and "The Way of the Flower" - an attempt to combine the concept of "Art Through Artlessness" and allowing nature to take its course. The writings of Lao Tsu go into greater detail about these concepts, but they can be easily transferred into Shogun Tactics:

    1) Select everything.
    2) Doubleclick on the nearest enemy unit.
    3) Sit back and see what happens.
    4) Repeat steps 1-4 until battle is over.

You are unlikely to ever win any battles, but at least you can feel smug about losing int the chatroom afterwards.

LoL, Target. I now see the error of my ways. I've been incorrectly using concepts from "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". Obviously way too westernized for Shogun tactics

    1)Split 12 units into 3 groups
2)Find and goto high ground ASAP
3)Check nearest ally, dbl-team his enemy
    4)Hope ally returns the favor
5)Watch smugly as ally wins, knowing I sacrificed my units for a greater good or
5a)Watch smugly while we lose. Take the blame in the chatroom.

Great fun. Oh, and thanx for the battle recorder. Wicked good stuff.

Ok some insight info on this

make a free CTR groups like left wing centreshooters centrefighters and right wing

then when battle starts move this groups as needed when chaos starts, look above, open your mind and wait a second, then look down at your screen and ..... u see every indivudual unit moving as if controled by a wargod himself. your units are dancing and when they dance... u will be positioned amongst the happy few of shogun vets who can make units dance.

    thats micromanaging "mongol style"

    target,

that sounds somehow similar to elmo's style...deploy your men facing the nearest edge of the map, and hit cntrl . works every time ;)

    cham,

what is 'a free CTR groups'?

Probably the cham meanted CTRL groups, or as most know them, pre-defined temporary groups.
To create a temporary group one must:

Hold ctrl + left-click units, then press G [group] (if you want them grouped when you select them)
Then to save the current selection of units by pressing Ctrl + Shift + 'number'
Lastly, when you want to select the pre-defined group just press Ctrl + 'number'

You can do this in the deployment phase. Grouping your units at the right time, at the right place and quick is very important, and there is the quickest, best method to use.

So, after reading Cham's post, I did a Google search on "Mongol Dance", and sure enough found this: http://www.csen.org/Mongol.Nadaam/Mongol.text.html
Those fellas do a stylized "dance" into the wrestling ring, to evoke the movements of eagles, lions, etc. Reminds me of the dance/throat singing of that little mongol fella in "Close to Eden". Anyway, sounds like a good time...wonder if they drink beer (hic!)?
Wait, this isn't OT...um...yeah, I agree, group units into 3 mega-units during deploy, either by type (h2h, range, horse) or rounded, depending on terrain and your best guess what your opponent(s) will choose. Otherwise, you're putting out brush fires (i.e. micro-managing) the whole battle.

Actually they drink fermented horses milk (logical) and they ferment it by just letting it sit outside for a couple of days. Yep its just plain clotted horses milk... so who wouldn't rampage throughout Asia and Europe after drinking off milk.

Point taken. A steady supply of Guiness might've saved half the known world, if only logistics could've been solved. *sigh* T'was ever thus so...for want of a nail, the horse...for want of a pint, the warrior...
