Am looking at new VIDEO card, will RTW code be based on DX9 or DX8.

If it is 8 I could go with the 9600pro, if 9 I should get the 9800.

Any opinions or comments on this?

Maybe you should wait. If RTW won't be released for perhaps up to 6 months from now, you'll be sporting an obsolete graphics card by then.

I'd imagine RTW will be based on at least DX9 since that is the current version. Will there be a newer version of DX by the time RTW comes out? I don't know.

Well, given that the Viking Invasion expansion includes DX9, RTW will certainly go with at least 9. Gregoshi gives some good advice, wait and buy later if you need to. However, I've got the 9600 and it handles DX9 just fine.

You might want to consider Half Life 2 as a factor too - that is DX9, and needs a meaty processor (I guess) to get a good framerate.

It will be DX9 but it would not surprise me if DX10 was out by release, you know what Microsoft are like

Its just how many of the features of DX9 are they going to use, being compatible does not necessary mean that it will use the powerful features available.

Thanx for all of the responses. I did not realize that RTW was still that far away.

My plan was a an AMD 2600+ with this new card. That way all I havve to upgrade is CPU and graphics, mobo is good to go along with ram. I run flight sims too, so getting it now would not kill me. I could use the extra power.

Anyways, I know it is all specualtaion but I would hope that that system would be more than adequate for RTW.

    Any thoughts?

I would have said so, even if the Min Spec was 1GHz the recommended is not likely to be double that, more likely to be 1.6GHz.

Of course the better the machine the better it runs, however I am sure CA are building in scalability as in Shogun and MTW where you can change the size, units are represented by etc.

Gone for the moment are the days when you had to buy a new PC everytime a new game came out, come to think about it I must be getting old to remember things like that. Oh 4 colour CGA and then 16 Colour EGA them were the days.

I remeber the first Falcon playing in 4 colour cga, and we complain now if some of the 16million colours are not vibrant enough (no intention to change the subject, having one of those old people type moments)

    I resemble that remark.
It's a good thing that war is so horrible or we would grow to love it too much.

I think you will be safe with a 9800 (try and get the pro version though). For gods sake dont go with a Geforce fx, apparantly runs poor on Half Life2 which is DX9.

If that won't run RTW I think that quite a few of us are in BIG trouble
