i VI i have seen the AI split a unit in two, eg a unit of 200 armoured spearmen into two units of 100.

can i do this? i presume i can't, i'm an experiancedd player and never seen an option for this.

it'd obviously be quite useful, 2 units of 100 are more manoeverable. i know i could change the size of the units but thats gonna make everything smaller.

it'd be good for something like an ambush, u ccould take say 20 of ur best unit and hide them in a wood for an ambush cause u can't hide a huge unit in woods.

    thanks for any info

As far as I know splitting a unit only takes place when assaulting/defending a castle. But only in case you play with huge units (like 200 spears).
Well I am not really sure if its all true, but cant explain it any other way. Maybe somebody else would drop few words...

They could have been starting units or bribed troops that are'nt at full strength from the beginning. I have seen it quite often where the comp will bribe rebel troops
When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.
