you know trabzond archers are much more better than the other shortbow archers.
but what is the difference? they use the same bows,we know it from the
stat files (unit_production).they must only be better in melee combat as shown in their stats.but they are better
shooters.why? Iknow they use the same sbow.
so I really want to learn about this ,pls inform me.

I think that trebz have a higher accuracy than normal archers, plus they have a small shield that's extrem advantade in bow battles... thats the main difference AFAIK

statfreak warning If you prefer to believe the erroneous unit descriptions (like trebs having compound bows) over actual tests and what is in the files, do not read any further or you will be disappointed

I ran some tests regarding archery range and posted here.

Also, this post about detailed tests run in MP, exclusively to test missile units.

On page two of this post is a screenshot from one of the tests where you can see kills for trebs and regular archers shooting at spearmen in MP. No real difference in killing power. A good analysis is presented showing SBOW effectiveness largely depends upon row depth, formation and distance to target.

In sum: Treb range is SBOW range, Treb killing power is SBOW killing power. If you can give proof to the contrary, not just stories, I would be very interested in seeing it. If you still want to believe Trebs are magical, by all means do so, but I won't until I see some proof.

In WesW Medmod Trebizond Archers have compound bows (called MTLG in unit_prod)- some higher range (6250) and armour modification (0.9)than SBOW.
Really compound bow was better weapon than SBOW.

I find the Trebizond Archers are much more effective than regular Archers, but not due to their shooting. When I charge in my HA and Turcomans those Trebs fight back They can be and are used as flankers by the AI and they hurt a whole lot more than regular Archers when they hit the line.

Excellent early bowmen for the Byzantines just needing a Bowyer. Comparable units need a Bowyers Guild (or more) for other factions.

What about bulgarian brigandes? Are they better somehow?

And i have a question about steppe heavy cavalry:

I never used them yet, but the description says they're good in melee, but they're armed with bows. Are they good at both?

Bulgarian Brigands are better, especially if built in Bulgaria, but they require a Master Bowyer which is a bit of a difference from a Bowyer. Bulgarians still use SBOW for their Archery.

Steppe Heavy Cavalry are excellent units, Boyars(almost) for everyone. Their stats are
    Charge 2
    Attack 3
    Defense 4
    Armour 5
    Morale 4
They are Elite and have a shield that they can use in melee. They require an Armourer to be built so they automatically get a +1 to Armour and Defense making them very capable melee units.
Get them you won't be sorry.

The Trebizond archers owns normal archers if they are built in Trebizond . They get morale bonus and valour and that makes their accuracy better and they won't flee as cowards when the enemy rampage across your lands. But there are much better archers but Trebizond Archers are the best you can get in the beginning so use them.

I know their stats are the same with an ordinary sbowman but I still believe they have a magical way in their shooting, because I see their arrows penetrate in armour better than a normal sbow.
