Thread: Could the Mead Hall do more?

  1. #1

    Question

Do you think the MH would benefit from a slight expansion of the rules allowing stories based on non-TW subjects? Would you like to come here and discuss a particularly good book, game or film plot?

In short would you like to see the Mead Hall thrown open to any kind of story based activity?

Under the propoesed expansion this is what you could expect to find:
-TW related stories/poetry etc as we have now.
-Other game related stories/poetry etc. .(This topic is a taster of what to expect)
-Discussion of plots and characters you found enjoyable be they from games, books or films.

Subjects like this occasionally pop up in the Tavern but they soon get buried under thrilling ( ) political discussions.

Spam stories (I am glaring at the one word story here) and silly stories about how your hamster escaped would remain in the Tavern, this forum is intended for serious stuff only (even if some of it is a comedy )

If there is anything else you think should be added speak up, after all the worst we can say is bug off

Well, it's possible to say anything under the influence of alcohol, so why not?

The stampede to vote must have been terrible There are only three votes, everyone else must have been killed in the crush

I'll give it a week before noting the results.

Note to self: If you ever want a response to a poll don't stick it in the Mead Hall

Hmmm i voted wrong, but oh well

It couldn't hurt to allow some other stories from different games, or to allow the ocasional patron to post about how much he liked (or disliked) the Silmarillion or something to that effect. Such discussions about books and great peices of literature would be welcomed by many here i am sure, so my response is:

    Go for it

EDIT: a bit more i'd like to add, i think that (even withall the great stories that are made) people could get bored of reading about just MTW inspired stuff, so an added option to post about Soul Calibur 2 or Mortal Kombat: Deadly alliance and other games, would attract much more readers and posters as well.

Yes, that is half the reason I suggested the expansion. Tied into this is the fact it would open the MH up to more people - not everyone feels they can write stories or poetry but anyone can add a comment to a topic discussing another plot, as long as they have seen/read it.

The Mead Hall is supposed to showcase patrons creativity and talent, why should that talent be limited to TW? If we are 'doing' literature why shouldn't we discuss it as well? We have the space and we should use it as best we can.

froggy gives Monk a cookie for voting, DemonArchangel can have one too. ShadesWolf doesn't get one though

Well I for one am always happy to visit a literary forum.
Then again, why would I come to the org to read and discuss Khayyam ?

All the pros have been outlined above; I would be interested to hear why you wouldn't want to discuss literature at the org as a small sideline. If there is a real problem here it is best to find out sooner rather than later.

He He that was more of a poke than a serious comment

There is never any problem with your ideas Froggy, you have had only good ones

I have voiced my support and wishes for a literary forum here at the org before. I think it's a very good idea.

Yes. I think the MH would benefit from non-TW stories. This would give mor range for writing stories, and hence I'd expect more participation.

Now that is a quote to stick in a signature

You had me worried for a moment - if you thought it was a bad idea you would have a very good reason to do so, that could bury this whole idea under several tonnes of rock for a long time. :froggy breathes a sigh of relief:

Well that's one week so the polls are closed.

    The results:
    Yes (combined total) = 8
    No (combined total) = 0
    Gah = 4

Looks like we are going to need an extension I shall report the result to TosaInu now....
