Here is a little this I do and i find it effective for me.. My line is very my like a defenceive line. My flanks are well protected with cavs ( i have at lest 3 - 4 cavs in each army pavs in front, and my sword and anti cavs on each flank as well. As i march I'll stop just enuff for my pavs to fire.. bringing my can unit to distract there pavs or archeres and hoping to bring cav out as my anti cav flanks there cavs. so basicly I try to turn the tables and have them attack me

yup i try to do that to, but a good player will not let his cavalry get stuck, esp. once he sees your anticav is moving.

If I understand correctly, that is the standard formation that everyone does... and it works, too

yes It should be, but u see alot of these fancy things, it just I dont see apoint. Basic is usly better for the most part if you have the right idea of how ya enemy is gonna react.

Yes, that's true... but the fancy things are usually done by very good players that are hopefully my allies

My battle plan is simple... I make a big mess of my army while dragging my opposing army with me, relying heavily on the fact I am more used to salvaging my part of the mess than the opponent is used to salvaging his army...

Of course once I understand how this game works, I would try to play according these basic standard formation, my style is only an attempt to cover up my lack of army control and turn it into an advantage

hide your intention from your opponent.

know what your opponent wants to do.

do what your opponent doesnt want you to do.

make your opponent do what he doesnt want to do.

    click faster than your opponent.

    think faster than your opponent.

but sometimes.. it basically just mother luck.

    vlad_demstra,

I would say you have a good basic formation and tactical plan, and a flexible army which will allow you to be flexible in your thinking and actions during the battle. The only thing I would caution about is chasing cav too far with anti-cav inf. The 4 cav is nice to have in team games since you can assist your allies with cav more easily than with inf.

    Hi Major

I think you're on to something or is that "on something"? In any case, I'd like to see you're units carrying banners which read, "Don't Sell the Wedge Short".

I always get some "irritating units" like horse archers or some siege units on attack. They usually prevent defender from establishing the defensive formation quickly, which creates the time for you to reach the position before the defense is established. Also splitting my army into two and attacking from two sides (as if flanking) causes defender to split its army too. If you have two units of cavalry, you can pour into that gap.

    GAH

Vanya's SECRET (perhaps no more) weapon for MP games...

Vanya get 15 BOMBARD units and groups them up in a tight formation... 4 rows of 4, 4, 4 and 3. Pack them in tightly, but not so tight that you cannot walk your general through them.

They enemy will attack you laughing so hard their yellow bellies will ache. WAIT till the last second to order them to fire. The enemy will be in their midst, and the bombards will blow up (they always do). When they blow up, they will LAY WASTE to the enemy within your ranks And if their general was foolish enough to rush in, then you practically WON the game, baby

Use your gen to give chase

Nah Dude, its alright... its only Tempiic is a female.

But I call my wife "dude" all the time. The term "dude" to me is gender neutral-- it doesn't imply anything other than-- well that you are a dude. It originally referred to "city slickers" of either sex.

The first use of the word dude dates back to, oh well here you go:
The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.

    dude

    PRONUNCIATION: dd, dyd
NOUN: 1. Informal An Easterner or city person who vacations on a ranch in the West. 2. Informal A man who is very fancy or sharp in dress and demeanor. 3. Slang a. A man; a fellow. b. dudes Persons of either sex.
TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: dud·ed, dud·ing, dudes
Slang To dress elaborately or flamboyantly: got all duded up for the show.
INTERJECTION: Slang Used to express approval, satisfaction, or congratulations.
    ETYMOLOGY: Origin unknown.
OUR LIVING LANGUAGE: Cowboys and the Wild West are indelibly set in the minds of many as typical of America—an association borne out by several common Modern English words that originated in the speech of the 19th-century western United States. One is dude, now perhaps most familiar as a slang term with a wide range of uses (including use as an all-purpose interjection for expressing approval: “Dude”). Originally it was applied to fancy-dressed city folk who went out west on vacation. In this usage it first appears in the 1870s. The origin of the word is not known, but a number of other cowboy terms were borrowed by early settlers from American Spanish. These include buckaroo, corral, lasso, mustang, ranch, rodeo, and stampede. Buckaroo, interestingly, is an example of a word borrowed twice: it is an Americanized form of Spanish vaquero, which also made it into English as vaquero, a cowboy.

So, Tempiic really shouldn't feel bad about being called a dude--'cause its cool, but if she does then don't call her that.

I'm proud to be addressed as a dude, so you can call me a dude whenever, dude.

I use a similar formation with swords protected by anti cav or just heavy cav. My swords are pumped up hoping to be more pumped than thou. Then I play with arbs and chasing arbs till I see a weakness or too small a force attaking me. Then I engage the foot troops on masse( insert yelling and screaming here). Watch for weakness in enemy line, watch for his weakening swords then.... MASSIVE CAV CHARGE Much blood, much suffering, hopefully on the now running back to Kansas enemy

Perhaps I shouldn't... then again I am not born in the USA nor is english my first language... So I tend to give it a different meaning than I perhaps should... its more a tranlsation thingy than being referred to as guy

In my language, unless used in a plural form while referring to a group of individuals no matter the sexes, its simply not done

What's cool about being called dude?

    Or mate? Or anything else?

It's fairly common to be addressed to like this in the US... If you go buy clothes, chances are the clerck there might want to call you dude, or mate like in 'can I help you mate?', or 'looking for something dude?'... I quite can't picture that happening in France, got to say... When they call me dude in the wrong context, they don't score points. I don't expect complete unknown people to adress me like that. I bet they want to be helpfull and nice; they just sound irrespectuous and deceivingly friendly.
It's the wrong way to approach me. Usually I let that known .

Must be because I'm not cool I guess.

Keep that 'dude, mate' crap for people you really knows.

    Orda--

Have you tried playing on the TWN 1v1 Ladder? I see a lot of different tactics and formations being used. Have you fought against Kanuni's Turks of Doom? They are incredible. You haven't played me lately, and I try to change up my attacking style...

...have you played any 10k vikings games since the swipe bug was fixed? Lots of variety there.

Part of the reason you dont see too many different unit selections is due to the upgrade cost structure. Units with excellent base stats at a [Edi: relatively] low initial price (such as lancers, chivknights, CMAA, FMAA, etc.) are more efficient to "pump up" than cheaper weaker units. Basically they are "power units."

So with the currect cost and upgrade structure we are stuck with certain power units unless we want to put ourselves at a disadvantage. Even Kanuni's turk army uses turkish "power units", but such units are so unique they change the entire style of the game.

Anyway--everyone gets stuck in a rut now and then, but I see a good degree of variation--esp. in the 1v1 ladder-- and I would encourage you to try playing at different times of day than you normally would. Something many of us have noticed is that Euro players and US players have different styles of play.

Hope to see you online m8.

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I had two cents to spare...

Sooner or later your enemy will make a mistake. Be watching, and ready to take advantage of the error, and you will win.
