Had a civil war break out. Chose the loyalist faction. Discovered, to my surprize and delight, that I still controlled all the Jihad markers, even those in rebel provinces.

I keep a lot of Jihad markers around.

The civil war was quite short.

The Jihad marker in Navarre, for instance, couldn't fight the rebellion in its own province, but it could be sent against the rebellion in Aragon -- and the Jihad in Aragon was sent against the one in Navarre, etc.

Many of the rebels surrendered to the Jihads. You get a message saying the rebels hand over the province peacefully.

I have a real problem with low loyalty from the units created by these Jihads, but I'm spreading my loyal officers around as commanders as fast as I can.

Some care is needed -- you don't want Jihads to fail. However, they become use anywhere troops as soon as they take over their designated province. Then you can mass the units and take on the big, tough provinces.

We'll soon see if I have another civil war on my hands with all these disloyal units. If so, I'm much worse off, facing masses of rebels.

Yep Co-Religious rebels (over 50% converted to your religion) tend to surrender to Jihads.

Makes it very good for recapture.

What happened to me once and made me very mad. I had troops being besieged in a castle by rebels in Armenia. So I decide to launch a Jihad against Georgia from Egypt. Well I figure on there rout to Georgia I will have them travel to Armenia first and help them sally out. Well anyways the Jihad arrives and the rebels allow the Jihad to pass in peace. HELLO you have my troops cooped up in a castle and you think I really want that Jihad to just pass through WHAT BS Oh well they still survived but took more casualties than I would have liked

    Cool

    Think of it this way.

The Jihad was on a mission from God, and unless the rebels where lined up like a bunch of neo-nazi's on a bridge, the Jihad was not about to take a detour.

I agree with the mission from God argument. Passing through is just a factor that has to be taken into account.

As per my original post, there were no new rebellions. Disloyal generals did not prove to be a problem in this game. They gained loyalty as they reconquered provinces and defeated enemies, gaining influence for my very young king.

What was a problem was the cost of all those Jihad units, particularly Absyssian guards -- 75 florins in upkeep for a unit of 60 lightly armored men. No thanks. I disbanded a lot of them after the crisis was over.

Disbanded them??? Wouldn't you have been better sending them all off on a kamikaze mission? Sounds like you had the loyalty under control and could afford to lose one battle.

I don't do kamikazes. We all have our quirks.
