Thread: My tactics feel sorta strange now

    Cool

My tactics feel sorta strange now that I'm playing vi with the new patch. I dont get the same routing effects that I was used to in mtw 1.1. How have your tactics changed?

We got a morale increase of +2(same as 1 valour) in VI, so units can take a bit more before they rout. And the swipe bug are now gone with the 2.01 patch.

That does mean some changes to the tactics as infantry is now stronger versus cavalry. So more swords are used and less cavalry compared to 1.1.

If you are playing vi v2.01 at 15k per player as mtw v1.1 was played, I think your flanking force has to be stronger in vi 2.01 to have the same effect that it had in mtw v1.1. Units can operate a bit more independently, and you might be able to utilize reserve units more which is something I saw players doing effectively in mtw v1.1 at 25k. Cav has to get a clean charge on the target unit in vi v2.01 to receive its charge bonus since swipe no longer works. Also, the gameplay is shifted toward attrition and away from position by the +2 morale, so it's more important in vi v2.01 to maintain parity in combat power with the enemy by purchasing hth units with the highest combat/cost ratio. The infantry you see these days in 15k games usually has 14 or 15 total hth combat points (att + def) and will defeat cav head to head, so there is little need for the specilized anti-cav unit types, and, as a result, not a whole lot to do in terms of choosing inf matchups during the combat.

My tactics have changed towards a more powerful heavy infantry. And I'm sad to say that after the ranged fight I seek a powerful clash, where I used to be more restrained.

This has even spilled over into my 5k games.

Well what I've noticed that I've lost a lot of games since Gamespy probs were solved, not due to wrong tactics, but due to old unit choices that had changed. For instance no MS but the old Order foot...

My tatics felt way out of wack going from stw:mi to mtw.

From mtw 1.1 to mtw:vi with the patch yes you have no swipe and swords can withstand a cav charge head on a lot as well as spears holding there own, but spears still i think are rather worthless. I go with some missile units even though they dont kill much unless you do missile shoot outs, but during a rush don't expect much, so we are down to yet again mainly swords/ap units and cavalry.

Try different florin lvls. I tend to enjoy 5k - 8k games

I'm still at the 10k-15k level.

    Also I sometimes do a 20k...
