    Question

This is a little OT but I was hoping that someone might be able to help me out.
I do a lot of photoshopping and figure modeling along with being a TW addict. Anyway a couple of people have suggested that I get a program that can do 3d drawing for doing model designs and that it can additionally be used to create artwork designs. I looked around some on the org and the net and found a program called Poser.
Anyway there is a new version out Poser 5, but no one can tell me quite what its system requirements are. The most I have heard are a couple of people who claim that it requires the equivalent of a Cray Super Computer to run, but it sounds like alarmism to me.
Also, I don't know how well it does backgrounds. i.e. could I make a bunch of little men standing on a castle wall with siege engines in the background?

Any help about Poser's capibilities and specs would be greatly appreciated.

this indeed is off-topic here. moved to the dungeon in the alchemist lab. if that's the wrong sub-forum, then the mods there can decide where it goes.

Don't worry. It does not say, but i've runed Poser3 and 4 without any problems in Win2000Pro and it runs on XP (all versions too).

As for the requirements, I've runed Poser 4 in a Win98SE Pentium 233/96MB RAM. No problem whatsoever.

    One more thing:

-Poser is an animation program. Nothing else. No modeling allowed. Unless you can get a library of medieval 3D clothes you ain't going anywhere.
-Organic Modeling, like those you see in the description images, takes a whole LOT of time and learning to get it right. It is a long and arduos process. Beware...

Don't get me wrong. I'm writing this to help you. I've modeled, textured and animated in 3D since 1997, so I'm pretty certain of what I'm speaking...

Very true. I'm using poser to create a new late/reinassance unit animations but I was helped by the fact that soldiers wore tights (so you just need to edit the body image map file). But you need to have another 3D program (I use 3DS Max). For example I exported the chest and abdomen meshes from Poser, I merged them in 3DS, I simplified the lines and edited a lot of vertex to create a chest armour to be imported back in Poser and linked to the chest so he can inherit its movement.

Well it sounds complicated but it isn't if you already have some experience in 3D modelling (I had and it took me 2 weeks to get a grip on Poser).

Aymar... as you're interested in my mod why don't we help each others? We can build a single mod, or just having some common work from where we could departed to follow our ideas, I'm democratic

    I believe you are

Of course I can help. But my MOD on MTW is just an adaptation of the Unit and Build files, historical descriptions and a few balance issues. Nothing really...

Interesting to see that you're using MAX. I use that program too. It's great that someone has finaly made a MOD with NEW 3D description images. I tought about that in the last couple of months.

As for the help, I can help you with the 3D images and renderings...
    Nothing around programing, OK?
