I recently installed Total war and VI. When starting the game and going into new campaign the mouse movement on the the strategy map is so choppy that I cannot use it all. All of my video and sound drivers are updated. I have tried every version of Nvidia drivers all the way back to 40.72 and even updateding media player etc. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem as I can find similar but not exact ones in the Apothecary forum. Sorry about posting here but I don't have access yet to post in the Apothecary forum. My specs are...

    Dell Dimension 8300
    Windows XP Pro
    2.8ghz w/ HT
    1024 mb of RAM
    SB Live digital (Dell)
    Geforce FX 5200 (53.03 drivers)
    Altec Lansing speakers
    Wireless keyboard + mouse
    19' LCD Flat panel

    Welcome to the ORG, JackalUO

I hope I can be of some assistance.

I play MTW-VI on a Celeron 466MHz, 512MB RAM, GeForce 4 MX440 64MB DDR. Ocasionally in more advanced campaigns, with many armies in the map, it gets a little slow, but not that much.

I use Win 2000 Pro. This operating system is a little faster than WinXP, but your PC spec is quite impressive. You REALLY shouldn't be getting ANY problems.

Try to move sound to Medium quality and no Hardware Mixing. Make Strategic Map resolution 1152*864 at the most. See if it works. If not, did you updated sound card drivers? Is there any conflict in your hardware?

I have had the exact problem once with the Shogun; I went on to regularly defragment my hard and after I did it, the mouse behaved the same as you have described it… After I've completed the defragmentation

Unfortunately, I was never able to correct that problem… eventually I bought another computer (not for that reason) and it was OK… I have tried a dozen of solutions and none of my friends could help me, it remained even after I've uninstalled and reinstalled S:TW for few times…

Enough of lip service, I'll copy this one to the Apothecary…

In response to Kraellin in Apothecary

I have done evrything you pointed to. It is not a laptop and the card i'm running is a GeforceFX 5200, the type of wireless mouse is infared. None of this worked, any other ideas?

I have noticed that after about 2 hours play on Shogun Towal War (Any variant of) that when I select pieces that causes a lot of area to be highlighted, the more often I do it, the longer it takes the areas to highlight, then the piece to lift up, then set down on the new province, and then de-highlight the area. SOmetimes it takes 20-30 seconds to move a single shinobi anywhere. The solution is simple, just quit the game, restart the computer, and for nother 2-3 hours, my pieces work fine and fast.

Well, I have never experienced any of those problems happening to you.

    I can only guess.
It can be some resource ungry startup program or conflicting software. Maybe some faulty instalation of another program...

You can read a post I did some time back thats pinned in the Apothecary on optimizing Nvidia video card settings, also it seems that MTW runs best with older version drivers such as 30.82 or 41.09 I have the Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440 as well and I have no problems after optimizing my card, So I suspect thats wher you problem is as well aslo try the older drivers, they just seem to work better...LOS
