Battle at Sterling

I was just wondering if it is tough for anyone else to win this battle. You are so outnumbered, all your troops are clansman, and William Wallace isn't nearly as cool as in Braveheart. I killed 1,800 of their men and lost about 750 and I still got worked. Is there some special strategy I can use? I thought I was decent at comannding battles but now I'm not so sure. Thanks.

Victory at Stirling requires you to be quick enough and use the Bridge as a chokepoint against the enemy.

As soon as the battle begins you need to surround the bridgehead on your side and wait for the English to come across into your open vice (they would probably send their Footknights and Men At Arms over first), when enough of them make it over close the vice on them from both sides.

The powerful English will then rout back over the bridge, but do not chase over after them, as the enemy General will rally his troops for another attack, this time he will probably be leading his Knights and lower level troops over first...

A rout of the Knights (and the death of their general if you can manage it) should finish the enemy army and set in a mass rout, allowing you to storm over the bridge in force and drive them from the field.

Historically Wallace surrounded a large part of the English army on the other side of the bridge and the fact that only two English horses could make it over at any one time, forced the greater bulk of the English Army to watch the massacre on the other side...

I have also won this battle by going to the high ground and killing the enemy general in a field battle, but my lossess were very much greater

EDIT: In my Bridge defence battle, I lost 230 while killing over 1,000 of the enemy, the field battle I lost close to 450

Stirling was his only real success against the English in a pitched battle, before that he waged a guerrilla campaign that was reasonably successful... He was a one-battle-wonder really as the English (personally led by Edward I)got their revenge at Falkirk and later on captured and killed Wallace.

Still his Martyrdom would have bad consequences as Robert The Bruce would finish Wallace's work by driving the English (led by Edward II) out of Scotland at Bannockburn, creating a Scottish independence that lasted for 400 Years.

This is the traed that I should follow ? Can anyway give some kind of 'walkthrough' as I've never made it the first battle.
