Thread: What type of clicker do you prefer?

For Christmas I received an optical mouse. I like the more defined click of this mouse (microsoft) and the fact that I wont have to clean the fuzzies out anymore, but the little ball on my old mouse gave it a little more speed. The optical drags along ya know. For those of you who have tried different mice... which do you prefer and why?

I like the optical mouse. Those fuzzies in the old ball mouse gave me fits sometimes during games.

Optical is a must have. I had a hard time switching to it (old fashioned fellow am I) but now I just couldn’t go back.

I switched to an optical mouse when I got my computer. It is a Logitech, and I definitely prefer it over other mice, as the other mice get dirty and freeze up.

There was only one problem, and that was the size of the mouse. The height of it gave me problems in the game I was playing at the time, Unreal Tournament. When doing the combo mode with the Shock Rifle, I was able to use the edge of my hand to anchor the mouse and make my grip steadier. With the larger mouse, I could not do this as easily. I got around it, and it also helped me stay more mobile in combat.

I use a drawing tablet for almost everything. Even when playing MTW I use the pencil to command my troops. Sometimes it's slower or more inaccurate, but I have noticed that it greatly decreases RSI and that is worth something to me.

I just used a wired mouse and it gives me no problems. Sure, I have to clean it from time to time, but then I just pause the game. Of course, in multiplayer, this is not an option. I once tried a rollerball, because it was supposed to work against RSI. It ruined my precision, so I'm back to the wired mouse.

How about wireless? Does anyone prefer them? Ever have your batteries go out during battle?

    I HATE WIRELESS

Oh man... the pain of wireless mice. See I made the mistake of buying the logitech keyboard and mouse combo thinking that it was a cheaper alternative... boy was I wrong

The freaking mouse gobbles up batteries like no tomorrow. I have to buy a 24 pack every month to replenish my supplies. And yes, I've had to replace the batteries in the midst of a battle, and many times right when I had to do some crucial micromanaging. The mouse does give you warnings plenty of time before the juice runs out but I prefer to use the batteries to the death because there's at least 2 hours of life left in the damned things. It'd be a waste to replace them right when the warnings pop up.

Everytime I'm off the computer I have to take the batteries out of the mouse. Learn from my mistake Whatever you do don't buy a wireless mouse (unless you purchase the ones with the recharger unit... but those easily cost double the price)

Wireless keyboards are fine for some reason, I've been using the same batteries for a year now.

    optical but with a wire...

Note that several Starcraft professionals in Korea play with ball mice. The weight gain seems important for them.

I am right-handed, but use my wireless/optical mouse in my left. Saves RSI/OOS problems. It took me a day to change over. Tried going back and got a itch rash on my right arm.

PS: Yes the batteries don't last; so if it dies on me I will replace it with a wired one.

I LOVED my first optical Dexxa 3D mouse. It was so fancy and so good, unitl it broke a year later Stoopid left click stopped working. What good is a mouse when a left click doesnt work ?

Right now I use a wired Logitech optical - it desont have a spiffy design but it sure lasts *knocks on wood*

I did have one wireless mouse at one point but the ammount of batteries that it went through cost more than the mouse itself so I stopped using it and got my Logitech one

I also have a fancy Logitech keyboard but its also wired. Hehehe, Ive learned the pitfalls of wireless computer accessories.

    Cheers,

Optical mouse is my choice (while getting used to that fancy red light took time). I used those old good ball-mouses for a long time (doh, naturally, you had to pay yourself sick to get one a couple of years ago). Then, suddenly when sending a squad of minigunners supported by a Mammoth Tank to rumble a nearby NOD base (no big laughs over there, that first and only C&C just is so cool), the whole clicker became just crazy, letting out odd noises and beebs and finally that ball just popped out like a bullet (in English, dropped down from it's hole and rolled under the table).

I find it a little annoying that my friends make fun about my habit to keep that optical mouse on a traditional navy-blue mouse-carpet instead of a plain wood table. Any relative-souls around here?

PS, won't touch in wireless mouse tho.
    Cheers, World

Currently using Microsoft's optical, wired and shaped mouse. Good thing I'm right handed... It is very comfortable - I like the bulk of it. Used to have a similar Logitech version, until it broke down on me. Having five buttons also helps. Had a rollerball once. It was pretty much useless for anything that required speed and precision.

Am considering getting a wireless version of my current one - though I dunno if the extra weight will annoy me... plus I'd probably lose the mouse - as I do anything that isn't nailed down.

I would use my laptop trackpad... but I kept accidentally palming it whilst typing, and with a normal mouse plugged in, the pointer went everywhere (something to do with having three mouse-type things I suppose - I have one of those centre-keyboard sticky things too). So I disabled both the trackpad and stick in my Bios, then forgot the Bios password.
Don't have any aspirations - they're doomed to fail.

    Rumours...

Microsoft wired optical mouse for me, had mine for years and it refuses to die, still works as well as it did 4 1/2 years ago. Don't like wireless though too annoying having to change batteries all the time and adds to the weight too (trade off with having the wire knock into things all the time). Mouse balls are a big no though, i'll never go back to having to clean gunk & fluff out of my mouse every 2 days, also over time they lose accuracy no matter how clean you keep them.

I never use a mouse mat either, have to be the most pointless invention ever, simply restrict where you can put your mouse.

I went to wireless but the battery problem bothered me, so I put on the second unit that I don't game with. I bought a 4-pack of rechargable AA's and it's not an issue anymore. For games I prefer an optical with a wire. I also use a mouse pad as I've had skipping problems without one.

Hmmm. why the hell would anyone want a wireless mouse? so its easier to lose? i think its one of those novelty things which have no real practical use.

anyway... i use a microsoft wired optical.. the one with 2 bottons and the wheel

i swear it is the best mouse for games.. i do alot of heavy gaming on warcraft III and starcraft, with an average APM of 200 (this means i make 200 actions every minute, which is probly equal to about 300 clicks..) so having a good mouse is very important.

i find the simple microsoft optical is very smooth and it it not cumbersome or heaving like the more expensive version with 5 buttons..

many of the worlds professional gamers (korean starcraft and counter strike players that are famous like sports stars) use the same mouse... unless they are sponsored to use another one..

    Gotta have a good mouse ^^;

Logitech, wired, optical mouse. For about 2 months, works like a dream but had to get rid of the old mouse pad. It kept getting in the way.
I wont come near the wireless stuff. Hate to change bateries every 2 days and have enough trouble with the kids misplacing the TV's R/C to begin looking fer the mouse too.

I use optical mouse, until two motnh ago was standard.

Optical is much faster. But there is a one thing you must know. Optical mouse is more faster on the darknes ground, whith white of lighter color, speed is decrease and clickable point are too slow and not on target.
