I know that if you change the number selection of the faction in the names table that the faction will use a different set of names. Yet,I have been unable to find the file where the name assignment tables are. Anyone know where?

not sure on tha, i don't recall seeing the default heroes file pre viking, so i'm not sure if you could even access it then

default heroes can be found at
MTW/campmap/names/default_heroes.txt

I want to just change the default surnames for one nation. I can't seem to do it.

I found the NAMES file. I tried editing the surnames in both columns. Failed. I tried editing those in just one cloumn. Failed.

How do I change last names?

I guess I wasn't clear enough.

I'd like to change the last names that the generals get. I was working on Scotland, but I'd like to do England as well.

There are two names on each row in NAMES. I change either, or both, and the changes don't take. The file is shanged, bit the game names stay the ame as they were. Huh?

What file do I change to change last names? How do I change it? My email is steelyglint@cox.net if the answer is to long for this forum.

When changing name, NEVER change the Left column these are like FIELD NAME and hense will mess things up.

Most things in the " " are changable, Buildings, Units Provinces etc, but you will need to leave the [ ] alone unless you are creating new ones from scratch. Which if you dont know what you are doing can be a lot of hard work, finding where everything goes......

Save it afterwards and start a new campaign ... ? In case you were trying to load from a saved game.

To change Forenames or Surnames for SP it is quite simple,
just edit the name in the second or outside column with the curly { } brackets, not the squared [ ] ones as this is the label. see below

// english surnames// english surnames


["Cromwell"] {"Cotton"}
["Pole"] {"Steely Glint"}
["Talbot"] {"enter name here"}
["Stanley"] {"Stanley"}
["Roos"] {"Roos"}
["Mobray"] {"Beresford"

then save the file and thats all you need to do, you have to remember when editing these names, this file works on a random names generator so the names do not appear as they show on the list.
i.e. the first forename does not match with the first surname etc....LOS
