    Hi Guys,
I was wondering if it was possible to bring in reserve units during a battle. After soon I hit the begin battle button the the option that allows me to swap units if I have more than 1000 units.
    Thanks

Before you can bring in a reserve unit to the battle, one of your units that is already present must either be withdrawn from the battlefield (CTRL + W), be completely destroyed, or have routed off the battlefield. My advice would be to withdraw a unit that is severely depleted or has routed once before.

You have to retreat some units to get reinforcements, or of course, loose a complete unit. E.g, if your archers run out of arrows, you can retreat them, and new units will appear. Or you could retreat a exhausted unit [ctrl + W]. If all men of one unit die, you can get reinforcements too. But you can never have more than 16 units on the field.

In MI/WE, it's no guarentee when/if you will get the reinforcement, so choose the initial 16 units wisely.

The "use up all archer's arrow then bring in monks" trick in the old STW just doesn't work anymore.

The good thing though, is that, during the deployment phase, there is a "circular rotation" button (maybe you have been using it already) that will allow you to traverse through all you have available, thus you have complete control over which 16 units you want to start with.

    hello,
if you go into battles with 16 units or more(what i mean is move more than 16 units onto an enemy province)and lose a certain amount of units reinforcements come but you cant make them come manually(to bad)hope that helps you out.

Ok - here is how it works. You go into a battle with a 16 unit stack, backed up by lets say a stack of 5 units. While you can swap out your initial units - you won't get reinforcements until after 5 units rout, then the next "stack" comes in. Thus, if you want regular reinforcements - invade with single to three unit stacks - multiple ones, so that reinforcements are (somewhat) predictable. Its a hassle, but on some battles, its worth it.

My advice is to not use reserve units at all. The reinforcement timing for the human is too iffy to ever count on strategically. I had one game where I retreated some archers early on and twenty minutes later when I won with my remaining force none of my reinforcements had shown - I'd have been much better off keeping those archers for melee than just sending them away. Now, the only time I ever take more than 16 units is if I'm using gunpowder and I want to have back up archers in case it's raining (swap them before the battle).

Due to the morale hit and spottiness of AI reinforcements, I've only lost a couple of times to the AI's reinforcements. Generally speaking, if you're winning, you should be able to hold off any size force the AI will throw at you with 16 well chosen units.

No problem Fadeyi... I'm new to the forum too, although I've benn playing Shogun for about 7 months now. If you have a question, the guys online have the answer. And if they don't, they'll probably figure it out. As for being beaten by us online, I'll be doing the losing, the Ol' Timers here will be doing the winning. :P
