Simple question, no vote with it.

    What's your favouritekind of infantry?

Personally I have to go with Saracen Medium Infantry. In any upgrade state they hold their ground (while supported on the flanks), they can make a good defence and switch to offence effectively.

    Comments please.

I have to admit,I just love those folks who belong in the Byzantine Infantry. You know them; Lots of them, cheap, good to hold-off enemies when your archers are pouring them with arrows et cetera, et cetera...

PS, it's my first post here. I'm a long-time lurker here and now I dared to post. (I had an other account, if memory serves... Wonder if the mods could use the ip-track function if they had one?)

    Welcome to the forums Quessa.

I really like billmen and halbardiers. But I think I have to go with billmen. :)

"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."

swiss halberdiers. balanced enough on offense and defense to slug it out with other infantry, armor piercing, excellent morale, and they shred cavalry.

when these guys flank heavy cavalry it's just sick how quickly they tear those guys off their horses

Welcome (back) to the Org Quessa. Thanks for delurking again. BTW, send me an email with whatever you can remember about the old ID (name/partial name, sig, location, etc) plus whatever you think the email address was for the old account. If the email account is no longer active, we may have a little problem, but I won't hurt to look into it.

all the Jannissaries when Turkish, billmen when English, Feudal Foot Knights if I get them earlier then the Enemy when Catholic....Oh and those Turcomen are great too. Just love the Turks
And recently in VI the Irish Kerns.

Varangian guards. Slices through Mongol cavalry like steel in butter. Exterminates everything early on. Of course, excellency has a price(double build time).

My absolute favoutite for the game is JomsVikings I've modded them into the real game. It takes Swordsmith4, armourer4, metalsmith4 and only buildable in scandinavia. But the metalsmith makes it only sweden. Also only in Early. It's a fun challenge to get that high in the tech tree in early in order to put ou these elite units.
After that I would have to say huscarles. Has anybody else noticed that in order to build the huscarles you need an armourere right. Well this puts them at exactly the same stats as VG's without any upgrades And you only need a keep to build them. Sweet

p.s. Welcome to the org Quessa I was like you and lurked for quite a while before I posted.

The Varangian Guard are my all time faves for MTW, their Axes will slice you up into dog food

Though Billmen and Janissery Heavies are pretty spectacular themselves

And uh oh, I nearly forgot (bleh, in fact I did forgot)...
How could we live without those Longbowmen of England (well of course, the opposite side might live a far longer life without them ). It's a pure pleasure when you for an example tie up the enemy masses, say, onto a bridge and then pour loads of death over them (who cares for those regular infantry men, similar men can be conscripted ).

And of course, the Arbalesters deserve a mention. It's nice when a bunch of charging enemy riders fall off their animals before they even could drop down a single slash.

    Halberdiers, totally
You can get them fairly early, and they will chew up all early troops.
They take missiles well, and their best point is their amazing cavalry-kill rates

    Long live Halberdiers

Feudal Foot Knights. I think its just something about their icon....dunno. Other than that, probably Janissary Infantry. I like hybrid units.

    Hi everybody, first post

Byzantine infantry by far. Cheap, reliable, easy accesible and beautiful (I love these almond shields and scimitars).

A dismounted high valor unit of high or late royal knights, preferably with all weapon and armour upgrades. I once had a valor 8 +4/+4 unit of 21 CFK defeat an army of more than 1000 man (killing about 800, of which 100 royal knights, 300 billmen, and some other peasant scum like fyrdmen, longbows, and pavise Xbows). I have to admit I lost 20 men in the proces.

If you're not so lucky to have such a wonderfull unit, valour 2 billmen (mercia/master spearmaker) or JHI are also very nice.

My word, the first post going for the common man.. the good old peasant.

I still stand by my original selection, though I've got to ask, what possesses you to like the billmen so much... they're okay, but nothing to write home about infantry wise..

Maybe I'm just too good at mincing them with my classhing army gnashers?
