Thread: Help! STW problems running on a laptop?

    Hello all

Having enjoyed immensely the latest total war editions of medieval and viking invasion and being too impatient to wait for Rome...I decided to plump for the Shogun (Warlord edition).

It was after I had installed the game on my laptop (brand new pentium 4 etc. etc) that I started having problems.

Namely on running the game the splash screen appears for a few seconds and then nothing happens. The o/s is xp home edition. Although i've had the same problem with the 'settlers' game series, the other total war offerings worked fine. I've done the usual things like changing screen resolution etc but to no avail.

I've visited their support site which explains it may not work on a laptop but this doesn't explain why the other titles are fine...any help/workarounds would be gratefully recieved.

Welcome to the Entrance Hall Keltic.

    Let's consult the tech manual...

It says here to tell us more about your system, hardware and software. Things like DirectX version, does your game have the latest patch (1.02?), what is your processor, how much RAM/hard drive, graphics/sound card, etc. are what we need.

One observation though, it seems that a number of people are having a hard time getting STW/WE running on their WinXP systems. But that is an assumption and we know what happens when one assumes...

Many thanks for your prompt response Gregoshi. Sorry about late reply but been out of town.

Using latest direct x (8 or 9 i believe)and have installed the patch on the cd.

    spec as follows:
    Intel Pentium 4 2.66GHZ Processor
    512 mb RAM
    40 Gb Hard Drive
    DVD-RW Drive
    15 TFT Display
    3.3 kg Weight
64MB ATi Radeon Mobility 9000 Graphics
2 hours Battery life (up to)
    Windows XP Home Edition

I ran the system check utility on the shogun disc and strangely it pointed to my cpu as the problem which can't be the case in light of the above spec.

    Any suggestions gratefully recieved
