    Thumbs up

Fully enmeshed in my first MTW campaign, I have several comments for the developers:

    1. Great game - I appreciate the complexity and historical consistency

    2. Two suggestions regarding historical consistency:
    (a) The cost of invasions/sieges should be increased to reflect the additional money needed to field an invading army and the invading army should be able to pillage the province to obtain some of the money.
    (b) The reemergence of a defeated faction should be less dramatic. The reemergence and buildup of their army should be spread over a longer period of time. (Note: It is 1180, I am the Germans and control 80% of Europe. The French have suddenly reemerged without warning in two provinces with a 9000 man army which is approximately 1/2 the size of my entire army.)

    I look forward to Rome.

You can pilage to a certain extent. After winning the provence: destroy all the building, raise taxes to very high, pull your army out.

You'll get some quick cash and don't have to worry about defending the new land. In a year or two the provence will rebel (giving you the chance to fight again and train your general) or an enemy will move into a devestated province and start building from scratch.

Thanks Bodew for the comment. I need to be more specific - pillage after you have taken over the province while you are conducting a siege of the castle.

Schwartz, the rebellions are so strong so that the re-emerging faction has a chance at survival. Believe it or not, some people think they aren't strong enough

The pillage while besieging was in the game, but it was found that it was detrimental to the whole campaign, provinces that changed owners often (and let's face it, with AI opponents at war with each other this happens in a lot of provinces) ended up with no infrastructure even though the castle never fell, and that resulted in the AI only building peasants and other basic troops and also having a severe income reduction, which made the game less challenging.
Now, buildings only get destroyed after you fully control a province. Most buildings get downgraded by one level and you get half of the contruction cost for it, but you can still raze them to the ground completely and retreat if you wish so.
You could intall MTW only to another folder and play a campaign there to see the difference.

Those should try Victoria Patch 1.02 & see the partisan nightmare.....

Reemergence is fine. It puts you in danger if you're weak, but not if you're strong. That's what I'm expecting from unexpected trouble

Thanks Brutal DLX that makes gameplay and programming sense. With a technical background and an interest in history, I always look for historical consistency, recognizing the need to be able to balance the play and program the critter. What you described occurred between the French and English and throughout the 100 years war.

Thanks for your comment Gregoshi. Because I prefer historical consistency, I would change the programming to have more frequent and spontaneous rebellions in conquered faction provinces even with moderate/high loyalty ratings and have them continuously occur over several years with smaller and less technically advanced armies. If I could mod the program, I would change several factors - the calculation of the annual probability of a faction reappearing would increase significantly in each of the faction's former provinces with the probability decreasing over a long time period, and the size of the army would decrease significantly, but still be sizable and threatening.
