simulated flanking

anyone ever tried simulated flanking??

ie 2rows or yari attacking a shorter front unit and wrapping round he sides and hitting the flanks of the shorter fronted unit

can you imagine the attacking x's with the v's under them are inline with defending x's

the problem with that is it works both ways: your thin line can get broken through (if a man dies in a 1 pr 2 rank unit, there's no one to replace him, unlike in the unit with more ranks) and so after this breaking through, your thin unit finds itself broken into (at least) 2 smaller units & flanked from the inside

I try to flank like this the majority of the time, especially when it's one on one, and the units are comprible in strength. I ususally follow it up with a tight formation of YS, say from 4 to 6 ranks deep, and have them enterr through the weakened center of my flanker's line. This usually keeps the first flanker from being eventually flanked and overwhelmed.
