    Question

So I JUST discovered the map editor and given the beautiful terrains on this game it is just a blast. I built a medium sized map and wanted to play a battle there but it kept placeing the defending troops in the least defendable position. Why have a castle on the hill of you're just going to march out and defend the surrounding farm land?

I tried to place the flag in the map editor but it said something like the terrain is overallocated and I'm not sure what that means.

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

A tip I have always used when creating maps, I always start with a blank canvas

    ie A flat map

I then play a few battle on this terrain, find out where both sets of troops start from and work from that basis.

ie I build terrain to suit the armies starting positions, hense the defenders always start in my castle.

I created a great map for Calais castle only to find that the defenders never started the battle in the castle, after a bit of deleting and adding new stuff they always start in the castle now.

It simply means that you have placed to many items on the map. Delete a tree or something that you really don´t need. Then try place the flag, should work now. Good luck

So does placing the rally flag place the defensive troops?

No, it´s just a marker to where your reinforcements will gather. To be shure to start a game in a specific spot you must build an enclosed area. When you choose to defend your troops will start there. Otherwise there is no way you can determine where your army will start out other than north half for defender and south half for attacker.
