Well, it's a bit early here for that. But I would normally assume some Asian players to be present in the lobby. Are you sure you are using the v2.01 patch?

No one is online? Sounds like you dont have the 2.01 patch then.

Another possibility, the time difference.
Australia and UK ...10 hours for example. I played Shogun with a few Ozz but had to log on at midday to catch them at 10pm same day. Some even admitted falling asleep waiting for me to arrive.
I know there are a few from Australia and New Zealand that are trying to arrange to be online at the same time. Look out for them
