I have always looked at the fields of carnage that are left after a battle in total-war, and I never could quite believe that they are all dead. Indeed, when I look at the end result, I always think dead and wounded, but then it occurred to to me what if there were actual wounded whom could come back?

The idea I got is as follows.

Unit A has 120 guys. After a long battle, it has 60 left, with 30 dead, 30 wounded. On the battle screen, the screens shows 60 "dead" bodies, but of those, 30 are still alive, just not able to fight. The Army that unit A is part of wins the battle, and after some time (maybe 1 or two seasons), Unit A gets 30 men back, bringing its total to 90, from 60.

The wounded are randomly mixed with the dead, with their chance of being only wounded, not killed, being based on armour, valour, morale (will to live in effect), and to a degree, weather and terrain. Knights, high-end infantry, royal guards, and other stronger than average units would have a better chance of surviving their wounds than peasants. A valour 6 crusader knight with high morale, the best armour, and fighting on a cool day would be far more likely to be wounded, not killed, than a valour 1 feudal knight with only basic armour, average morale, while in the desert heat. Muslims would have better chance of survival, due to their superior medical skills and treatments, and it could even be "race dependent", with people like Russians and Mongols being of hardier stock than French or English.

Obviously disciplined and elite tags have a bearing as well, as these guys are just more dogged and stubborn in their work than other lesser soldiers.

    Whats you thinka?

leaves to much chance open that the ai can screw u and always have its good ppl live.

like the idea but dunno if it could work.

oh and to be honest peasents could be wounded just as easy then knights, i mean they can get stabbed in the shoulder area and fall down but be alive just. a knight has more of a hcance of being killed at times becasue since most of his body is protected most warriors would go straight for the kill spots.

I dont think it would be possible to add this feature and i dont like the idea. Actually i think there are many wounded men after every battle i fight - those who survived.

Just how many of those wounded would be able to fight again? Not many, I suppose, and even less when the average Medieval surgeon had done his bit. The implementation of wounded would also cause interface problems: can you merge units of which one or both are still awaiting the return of a few of the wounded man? That kind of thing would play hell with the interface and if you are not expecting it, it would lead to much frustration. It also would add a rather frustrating 'luck'-effect to the game: sometimes all your men will return, sometimes they won't.

I'm sorry to destroy your idea, but it simply will not do.

    It'd make things too complicated.

That system was used in another game (Shadow of the Horned Rat) and I hated it. Say the unit had 20 men and 5 got injured, you can't retrain to get another 5 men, you have to wait.

A big no for injuries from me.
