Thread: New assistant moderator needed!

  1. #1

    Exclamation

As you have probably noticed by now I have been promoted to full moderator. This forum doesn't warrant two full moderators so I will be moving across to the new review forum, ShadesWolf will remain here as the full moderator. This means there is an opening for a replacement for me so the polling procedure that selected me is being repeated.

Volunteers and nominations will be accepted for the next three days, until Wednesday evening (UK time). At that point this topic will close and the polls will open, voting will be ending next Sunday. All nominations must be accepted by the nominee before they will be added to the poll, so if someone puts you forward please say whether you want to give it a go or not. If you are nominated but don't say you are interested you will be left out. It is not fair to drop this job on someone who doesn't want it.

What does the job entail? Firstly as assistant moderator you will have limited powers in comparison to a full moderator. You will be able to pin, move and close topics but not delete or edit other's posts and topics. You will be working in partnership with the full moderator, you will need his help to do what you cannot. Dealing with any unpleasantness is ShadesWolf's job, not yours. Generally you are left to your own devices unless you ask for help. If someone asks for something to be pinned you pin it. If someone asks for something to be closed you close it. You keep spam out, the Tavern's one word story is the place for spam. You tidy up loose ends, for example if someone posts a duplicate topic you will close one of them. In all this you must use your common sense - if someone ask for you to pin their story topic you don't bother This is your forum and you look after it to the best of your abilities. You don't need to be a writer or anything but it will obviously help if you know this forum and how it works. As an optional 'extra' you can take over my job with the filemanager as well, sorting out the screenshots people send for hosting and use in the picture and PBM threads goes hand in hand with the job but it is not a requirement. I would rather keep the forum than the filemanager so please take it Note that to take on the filemanager you must be able to check for new uploads regularly, I check once per day. You need to be open to getting messages at any time and in any quantity, more so if you take on the filemanager. You may get no messages, you may get hundreds. I have collected quite a few.

This is not a certain way to get to moderator, being an assistant mod guarantees you no future promotions and does not give you special privileges that you would not get as a 500 post member. You will be able to select your own avatar from the pool and alter your title, just as you can when you hit 500 posts. Advice: if all you want is the avatar then go spam in the one word story thread, it is far easier. You will be hanging between patron and moderator, not quite one and not quite the other, needing to blend aspects of the two together and that is harder than it sounds. It does require time and effort, not as much as larger forums like the Tavern and Entrance Hall, but still more than you may initially think. You must have time and inclination to read every single post, even ones on things you don't like. You have to give help each time someone asks, even if it means repeating yourself many times. It does give you a new way to contribute to the forum and it is a position of trust and I found it to be highly rewarding, watching this place grow from nothing and seeing things like the screenshot competition take off.

I'm going to miss this place I will nominate no one and support no one in the polls, but I do want to see someone who will look after this place win.

I forgot to say in my post above that you will not get my courner table - I am hanging on to that. A frog does need somewhere to write, after all.

Still no nominations? In that case, I shall take the lead.
The new AM should be a regular patron to the Mead Hall, so that makes it either Monk or Wizzy, or perhaps Voigtkampf (I haven't seen him here very often, he has given a good impression). And I wouldn't mind if I were to become AM.

It's a clear choice for me man

I mean you're in here all the time and you don't associate with the rough and tumble Tavern folks as I do, plus I thoroughly enjoy your short stories. You're someone who's well aquainted with this forum's ins and outs, well that my explanation anyway

I too nominate Monk, I would have put my name down. But as I tend to hang around the Throne Room more its not really appropriate...

    So Monk gets my vote.

Thanks a lot Ludens I hereby accept but I don't expect to win with Monk and you as rivals...

I also nominate Ludens just as Monk...

Good luck to you Wizzy, and thank you for the nomination.

Good luck to you too, Monk. And thank you very much for nominating me.

All nominations so far have been accepted except for Voigtkampf and time is running low. I'll drop him a PM and hold the polls for as long as possible to give him a chance to respond, otherwise he will have to be left out.

I am very flattered , Lord Ludens and would like to thank you for that exceptional honor, I am very grateful for the given trust and stated compliments. The least I could do is to nominate you to be the assistant moderator yourself, but since it has been already done, I guess my gratitude would have to suffice. Perhaps one day we will meet somewhere around this great globe and have a real glas of beer instead of this simulated smiley one

I would also like to thank Lady frogbeastegg for taking extra effort to alert me to my nomination for this honorable post Of course, everlasting respect and adoration along with sincere congratulations for her promotion to a full moderator. You have most definitely deserved it, my fair lady

Alas, I humbly accept my nomination for this assignment, although I do not expect to stand up to the older members who have been contributing to the Mead Hall for a much longer time than I have; my stories have just begun and, I must give the Org the credit for this, I wrote for the first time in years again just for fun and not for payment. I hope that in time I will contribute even more to this special corner of the most special place online

Furthermore, allow me to apologize for this late response; I was bound for a short business trip and have therefore been absent from the Org; but even I was working ten to twelve hours a day, I found myself finishing the second tale of the Longest Year; again, thank you all for inspiring me and making this place the greatest and the funniest one to be around

    Respectfully,
    Voigtkampf
