There's been a sudden surge of patrons talking about the Discworld but in topics where it's not possible to say much. Hence a Discworld topic. Enjoy

I would get the ball rolling but I'm a tad busy right now, so I'll just say
Favourite books: Carpe Jugulum, Lords and Ladies, Hogfather
Favourite character: Granny Weatherwax by about 6 miles
Character nominated to spend all eternity in the dungeon dimensions: Rincewind and can he stay there this time please

I have to second that. He really really annoys me.

As I've said, the Granny comes behind Havelock and Samuel - not by much, admittedly.

My favourite books are actually some of the random ones - like The Truth, Monstrous Regiment, Pyramids and so on. Though if a set of books within the series were to be selected - it would be those based on the Ankh-Morpork Night Watch... Men-at-Arms, Guards Guards, Feet of Clay, Night Watch, Jingo etc.

Thief of Time with the MI6ish Monks of Time was also highly amusing.

I almost forgot about Susan. Far too sensible to really exist...

Thief of Time was written after he played Thief: the Dark Project and it shows. Good book. If you're wondering how I know he played Thief he said in a interview I saw somewhere. I also saw someone using his name of a Thief forum but that could have been anyone.

I didn't like Monstrous Regiment, usually I read these books in one sitting but MR took me a week () because it was so...ick. I can't really put my finger on what I didn't like, I did feel that some of the characters were a bit cookie cutter and too similar to his older characters. The whole thing was quite close to Sharpe and that bothered me, not because he was ripping Sharpe off but because it kept reminding me of other books in a not so good way. Weird Sisters reminds me of MacBeth (well duh) but in a good way, many other Discworlds have that effect and they are intedned to, but for some reason MR just didn't get it right for me. It still wasn’t nearly as bad as most of the Rincewind books, the only decent Rincewind book is Interesting Times. It's not like he's losing his touch either, Wee Free Men was great. Discworld for children, he starts out nice but within a chapter he has gone back to his warped world

Susan alternated between brilliant and immensely dislikeable. I like the way she does things like cosh things with pokers, I love the way she manages to never quite fit in any situation, but the way she treats Death is horrible. He's her grandfather, the Grim Reaper, and a likeable chap but she is so unpleasant to him half the time. How anyone can be so nasty to poor old Death is a mystery to me.

What would people do if they ended up in the Discword?

I tried recreating the Discworld for use in Civilisation games, but a hard drive crash wiped it out when it was darned near finished. :-(

Hmmn... wonder how hard it'd be to use MTW to recreate Discworld? Might have to tinker with the innards to produce some of the odder features of Discworld reality... :-}

Aye, I found MR rather off at a tangent to the feel of most of the rest of the DW books, too. Then again, so was the one about Four Ecks. And aye, lots of good characters mentioned by folk.. including (not already mentioned yet) Foul Ol'Ron. And Detritus :-) Heck, let's face it, few of Terrys characters - or books - are actually bad, it's just that some are better than others.

I hadn't heard of that game, must go look it up...

and Rasoforos? Granny doesn't care if you hate her. Just so long as you eat your nice flies and hop off and don't bother her... ;-) (chuckle..)

Luggage is the funniest character in existence. Love it. Colour of magic, where luggage gets eaten by a sea monster and kicks it to death from the inside? Wonderful.

I do like Thief of Time immensely, and Death in Mort is just great as a short order cook. And in Mort, where the wizard comes back and destroys his statue? I forget the exact line, but something along the lines of They looked like a Trafalger Square pigeon would if it had heard that Nelson climbed down and was looking for a 12-guage. Wonderous imagery, that.

By the way my favorite character has to be rincewind ( although as i said i havent finished the series yet)...I cant help feeling that i am to economics what rincewind is to magic

My favorite books has to be Small Gods ... not one that is everyone's favorite. The reason is that i do not like books that repeat the same characters , prattchet is so imaginative that i am sure he could invent new characters for each and everyone of his books. In any case reading the Diskworld books is something i enjoy.

Small Gods was really good, one of the best one offs. I agree the one off books are amongst the best, the watch and the witches series are always good but you can in a way always guess what will happen. Vimes will catch the criminal, Granny will crush everyone underfoot and that's that. The ride is always good and has a few unforseen twists but the end is certain. One off books are an unknown quantity from start to finish. One of the reasons Carpe Jugulum was such a good book was the fact it was a bit unexpected, Granny went and did what Granny never does - get utterly pounded and only just survived. She still won but the path to get there was shocking.

What would I do if I landed on the Disc? Nip of to Lancre and become a witch What else could a sensible frog do? Besides it sounds like fun

Did anyone else play the old point and click games for the PC way back in the 1990's? Incredibly tough games but so funny, I worked my way to the end of both of them but I never did get the third game.

Fave books: Interesting times, Pyramids, Feet of Clay
Fave Character: It's a hard call, I like Dorfl, the atheist golum (who is also lightning proof), I LOVE the luggage, I get on really well with Rincwind (Being a complete coward myself) but I think even some of the one off characters are great.

All in all, fave char might even be Greebo

And I LOVED the games. I only played discworld 2 (where the amount of useless crap you pick up is amazing) and I recently bought and completed the third one, discworld noir. It's a little to american for my tastes, and not very discworldy untill the city is attacked by nylonethatep (the laddering horrer).

Small gods was classic, and I do like the impact on the rest of the world that has had. In a very short time one of the largest and most fervent religions around the circel sea has turned into a bunch of arguing pamphletters

I'd love to see another book that is set in, or at least passes through, djelybeybi. pTepic was great, and under the rule of dqueen pTraci the kingdom of the sun looks a whole lot sunnier.

Discworld Noir was really cool .To my oppinion it had the best music i ve ever heard in a game and the atmosphaire was cool. It was a shame the prodcers went bankrupt so the game has some bugs n glitches , which still are not enough to ruin the ingame experience. You can grab the game from £5 or in a 3 for £10 bundle.

I think Otto Shriek is the best side-character, but for the main character I don't know. I like Vimes best, but I don't agree with Esme when she said that a few more like him would make the world a better place. I think that a few more like him would make the world a more alcoholic place. Unless you add extra Carrots, Keels and Ramkins.
Character nominated to spend all eternity in the dungeon dimensions: I dislike Rincewind, but I don't think he should spent eternity in the same place. That would become dull. He may be chased all over the discworld for all I care, as long as nobody writes about him.

If you look over the Thief: The Dark Project newsgroup, you'll find he posts there now and then as well, as indeed, he is a big fan of TDP, and you can see why- The City has the same hidey hole industrial feel that Ankh-Morpork contains.

Thief is of course, one of the greatest games ever and highly reccomended.

I brought Night Watch the other day purely because of the promise of assassins, and what I've read so far has been immensely enjoyable and a far cry from these huge, winding epics I usually end up reading.

Small gods is one of my favourites , but I leant it to a friend who is a Jehovvas witness and it hasn't been returned , hope he enjoys it .
Far too many brilliant charachters to pick a favourite , though I do like the librarian , he has a lot of interesting things to say .

Have to go with Granny - not as invincible as shown in Lords and Ladys and the Cinerella kickoff - forgot the title and my bookshelf is a mess ;) and the romance sidekick with the archchancelor is hilarious - so my vote goes for that but I love all of them - anyone sharing a bath with me in B. S. Johnsons shower? - I ll pull the levers ;)

Man, I have had only the poor luck to own only The Night Watch and Monstrous Regiment, and I'm loving them

I bought them on a trip to London, England with my family. Saw lots of stuff and places, England is really enjoyable. This is how I got them. We went to salisbury to see Stonehenge. We had lunch and went to those crappy 10 pence-to-use washrooms, then we got these books. Well, we managed to miss the last bus to Stonehenge, but still got the books.

I cant seem to find the rest of these books In Ontario, Canada, anyone know, or if there UK only?

This is one 13 year old who loves to read.

Also Ricewind should not be sent to the dungeon dimensions.
Nobby Nobs should be sent home to the dungeon dimensions. Seriously he looks like he just wandered over for a pint but got bored and found out it was more fun here because it was easier to nick things.
