Aragonesse small size put big power

Not many people play aragonesse, you wanna know why? because they are blind to their true power.
I have one word that makes any army good but theirs more than one:
Lancers: not many know it but Args have lancers the kings of cav
Alumgvars: best jav unit in game and good in cc
they also have good basic troops like your:
chivalric seargents and chivalric men at arms
and of course the pavise arbaslests

I do personally like aragonese. It is one of the few factions that have that many special units. And yes, lancers are the kings of cav, they are amazing. You should check out the post

Actually the Args are one of my Favs. Lancers are great but I think the real strength of the Args is their positioning believe it or not. I think it's fairly easy to conquer the Iberian Peninsula and it makes a great homebase IMO. Usually I focus on getting the Iberian Peninsula and then sit and build up. Once I have sufficient strength I start to branch out 1 or 2 provinces at a time. Usually storm through Africa and the Holy Land and I just kind bite off small chunks of Europe slowly.

Lancers always.
But Almughavars are only found as mercs., exclusevely in Aragon and even then, very rarely. I've played Aragon about 5 times and have found them only on two ocassions. But I agree, they rock. Pity you can't retrain them.
And yes, I think Aragon is fun to play.

how hard would it be to make Almughavars non-merc-only? I was looking at who to play my next campaign as and saw that the arg have those sweet javmen, but then i saw they they are merc and very rare...

Ragss, it's not very hard to make the amulghavars (sp?) nonmerc and buildable.

if you have gnome editor or just use text editors is harder, you can check column 17 to add the building requirements and then voila they are buildable .

Beware of unit balance so don't make it too low. I personally find a metalsmith and spearmaker3 to be a good choice but you may want to add an inn for their merc origins .

I made all the merc only troops buildable and gave them some more valour bonuses in their respective provinces. I don't think it unbalances the game too much and gives a nice flavor to it now that almost every province has a specialty.

Aragonese are great. They can take navarre easily and nab toulouse from the french with an autoceasefire and also bribe el cid for valencia. that's a nice little power base to expand from and two of them are iron provinces while the other two have great farming.

you are even bigger than the spanish at that point.

then you can either kill the spanish so you are the only one with lancers and get valour bonused knights santiago or make war on da infidels.

actually this usually depends on whether the spanish rejects my ugly daughter lol.
