It seems like almost everyone here has played and enjoyed Zelda so I think the series deserves a thread of its own.

I have played:
Link to the past - good but I don't get on with the 2D Zeldas very well, too hard to fight with properly. Still plodding my way through the gameboy advanced port. Lost count of the number of deaths.

Link's Awakening DX - again I don't get on with 2D Zelda, still working my way through after several years

Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons - same as the other 2D games, I suck

The Ocarina of Time - played, finished totally and played again and again. The best game ever.

Majora's Mask - played, finished with most of the bits and pieces but not everything.

Wind Waker - got most of the way through but lost interest at the Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. triforce gathering repetitive boredom of doom[/QUOTE] after the tower of the Gods.

I love the 2D zelda's, and although LttP doesnt stand up to OoT, i still reckon it's one of the best games ever And the oracle games were genius aswell Ah...happy memories
As for the wind waker, my mate (BKS) stopped playing at the point as well. It seems gamers have no patience these days

Well i started zelda with the second debut,yes the horrible 2d side-scrolling one and totally loved it,from there on i played every zelda game,finished a Link to the Past,2 times,links Awakening,and Awakening DX(i'm trying to get the secret ending thing in DX),played Ocarina of Time and finished it several times,pretty much got 100% on majoras mask,and bought the non special edition Windwaker(no bonus disc )and am now at ganondorf and his incredibly tough dual sword weilding chinese martial arts combat sorta thing

Sailing was just a case of hoisting the sail, pointing the boat in the direction you wanted to go and reading a book for 5 minutes until you either arrived or got attacked. Fighting in the boat was both boring and awkward, lock on, throw boomerang, get knocked out of boat, get back in boat, repeat until all enemies are dead. Finding treasure was merely a case of sailing until you either hit the spot on the map or reached a glowing ring, nothing like searching high and low for gold skultulas. Bring back Epona and her deadly hooves of doom, also the horse archery

Highlight to read. the triforce hunt[/QUOTE] bored me was a combination of the tedious travelling, the need to keep grubbing up more cash, the need to speak to that freak Tingle, and the general repetitiveness of sailing to location X, killing mass of enemies, getting map, sailing to location G, grubbing for cash, sailing to Tingle and forking over cash, sailing to location Z, killing mass of enemies, on to next part. There were a few that were slightly different but you could not escape Tingle, the cash finding and the large amounts of travel.

Combat was excellent, I did prefer TOOT's limited enemy approach as you didn't keep getting hit in the back by enemies out of camera range but that wasn't much of an issue anyway if you had a bit of skill. I didn't see the end boss, I might fire the game up again to try and slog through the dull bit and get to the reportedly outstanding end.

Did you collect those figurines? I got loads of them, but only being able to take 3 photos back at once and needing to fast forward time before the figure was complete did grate after a while. I decided to take a break from collecting so I could advance the quest, the quest got dull so I took a break from the game for a day or two, months later I still haven't gone back yet.

The one really outstanding moment in WW, the moment I will always remember is going to Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. sunken Hyrule and the temple of time, seeing your old link and his sages commemorated as stained glass windows, and recognising places that have only changed a little bit...so sad, so nostalgic.[/QUOTE] There were loads of other good bits, like Link setting off to find his sister and waving goodbye to his poor old granny, in general all of the cutscene bits were loaded with emotion TOOT and MM never had.

Playing a game shouldn't be a chore. I suck at games.I only ever got up to like the second temple in TOOT, but a massivly enjoyed just wandering around hyrule doing random stuff and ghost hunting. Horse archery is cool ass

I have zelda the windwaker on my gamecube, but it gives me a headache. The dungeons aren't that bad, but it is all so blurry It came with the ninendo-64 version as well, and I like that version more, it is just easier to look at.

I thought that Wind waker was alright, some of it was a bit boring such as the sailing bit.

I prefered the OOT a lot better though, it had a lot more fun stuff to do in my opinion - I used to spend ages just fishing.

Nah. Epona was just a stupid nag, while although fun and intuitive in the time is completely outmatched (and outgunned; literally ) by the awesome King of Red Lions. Sailing around was much much better than riding around, getting off horse, going back (which is NOT good) to dungeon X, searching in every nook and cranny for skultulla Y until you found it, and then going back out. Yawn. I never bothered to look for skultullas, useless little buggers.

Now in tWW, it was much better. You get joy pendants from some monsters, skull necklaces from moblins and knight's crests from darknuts, and all of them have a use, at least somewhere in the game. It keeps the pace in the game, instead of the boring skultullas which are only a sidequest for more money, which is suddenly needed somehwere in the game. In tWW, you collect these unknowingly, and through fun ways (like fighting darknuts for knights crests for a certian something), instead of searching for missed skulltulla X that you need to get a bigger purse.

Also, combat in the boat was more... unique, and more engaging, not annoying. Arr, I be takin' a cannon to a wee bow any day o' the week, landlubber

The treasure seeking part was not very engaging and not forced upon you, it was a bit more necessary to get the needed money from that insane imposter Tingle, but it never got tedious like finding spiders with a skull on their back.

I always found it great to just quit the quest, walk out of the dungeon, get into the boat, and sail around at my own leisure and maybe find a silver rupee or a heartpiece. Not search in every single part of the central area for grottos, hidden grottos, more grottos, and oh, grottos? :\

Yes, the nostalgy of that certain part of the game was great, and I found myself wandering about in wonder Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. looking at all the frozen enemies, the paintings, releazing at last who in the game Ganondorf ( who looked very aged, btw ) was looking for of the girls, and also the surprise that came with finding out who the King of Red Lions was...[/QUOTE]

All in all tWW was more enjoyable, more fun and more continuous than OoT, which got to become a major dungeon romp when you became old Link. Don't think I hate the game, it rocks, but I just think that tWW is just that bit better. It was kinda... that certain... temple... with water... that ruined it for me. DAMN THAT THING

An embittered survivor of the water temple, lol I enjoyed that temple, especially the fight against dark Link, I loved using all my skill and cunning in a swordfight to the death. The temple I disliked was the forest temple, didn't like the music and the boss was not so good...inventive but not so good. That was still a really good temple though.

Epona was really cool, you could run people over, do horse archery, horse racing, jumping and all kinds of cool things The boat just sails around and then you get out at your next island. Dull. Froggy gets sea-sick, both in the literal sense and in the sense of being sick of seeing sea I'll take a bow over a cannon any day, pirate The bow is something you can aim accurately, the cannon is not.

The skultulas were hidden in cunning places, but there was always some slight clue... They were far from useless; the skultula people gave you a reward for each person you rescued. Granted the last reward (200 rupees each time you visit) was utterly rubbish and far too late to be of use, but the larger wallet and stone of agony were handy.

The joy pendants etc were worse than the skultulas IMO, all you really needed to do was find a respawning enemy that had what you wanted and keep robbing and killing that foe. I got all the joy pendants I needed from a certain submarine area, steal and kill from the creature, enter the sub and exit again, then kill the new creature that has replaced the old one. A bit dull, now the thingies you got from the darknuts was much better as darknuts never respawned.

I found there wasn't enough 'meat' to WW; TOOT had plenty to do in between each dungeon but you always had a dungeon to get your teeth into. WW had too few dungeons and that left the ratio of dungeon to side quest unbalanced IMO. WW sidequests got really inventive, tracking the thief, catching pigs, taking photos, playing Cupid for a shy couple, persuading boys to go to school, so many others. I loved that, it was one of the best things about the game.

One thing that no one has mentioned so far is the music - all the Zelda games on the N64 had gamecube have outstanding soundtracks. The older ones are still good but suffer from not being slightly bleepy bloopy old time MIDI. I would love a WW and MM soundtrack, plus the second alternate TOOT soundtrack I never managed to buy.

Was I the only person to miss the fairies in WW? Navie was a bit ear hurting and too eager to help but I appreciated having someone to stick by my side in the deepest dungeon, pointing out things and targeting enemies. It felt so lonely without a sidekick.

Time to fire up the cube and see if I can sit through the dull bit to reach the ending…

I guess you copied the whole text block and put that between quotes? That won't work, as you copy the whole raw text without tags and just tell the board that you want to assign a format to this whole block. The [quote ] format.

Compare it to selecting a formatted piece of text (mix of 12 and 16 point Arial), copying that into a new document, highlighting all and then making it 10 point Courier. The difference between small and large text will be lost.

I have a recommendation for all you Zelda crazy people - Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Ignore the fact the name sounds like a kiddywinkle edutainment type game. Ignore the fact it hit the shelves at a reduced price. Listen as the frog tell you all you need to know...

The game is split into two 'halves' by character; each character has their own feel and style. Sphinx is Link going Ancient Egyptian, so you do all those Zelda staples like finding ankh (heart) pieces, sword fighting, exploring, puzzling, talking, rescuing - the works. The mummy is invulnerable, undead and invincible so you don't fight with him. Instead you puzzle your way through dungeons using him as your toolkit. Set him on fire to burn barricades down, charge him up with electricity to power things, get him chopped into three to do several things at once, turn invisible to sneak about, get him squashed paper thin so he can fly and fit through tiny cracks, and more abilities I haven't encountered yet. You play as Sphinx most of the time but each time you find one of the canopic jars holding poor old mummy's soul you swap to him so you can explore Uruk castle. When you find your objective you swap back to Sphinx. It really does work well, always a change of pace to stop you getting bored.

Graphically this game really does deserve mention - it is flat out gorgeous. The PS2 version looks just as fabulous as the Gamecube and X-box versions. The colours are vibrant, the viewing distance goes on for miles, the detail is perfect, all the characters are well designed to have distinctive features so no Zelda style cookie cutter villagers here. This game is an Ancient Egyptian holiday brochure, the screenshots do it no justice...when it is in motion it is one of the best looking console games I have ever seen. From the screenshots you'd never guess Sphinx has a tail that twitches and sways in perfect cat like imitation all the time, nor that he does this little hop thing to regain his balance after jumping on the spot. In fact the animation throughout is nothing short of marvellous, Sphinx has cat-like grace combined with human motions just as you would expect from the demi-God who is half human, half cat. The mummy (aka king Tutanhkamen under a curse) has this wonderful clumsy type walk, the very essence of a 14 year old boy who is growing far too quickly...you have to see it to understand it. The setting also helps it stand out, there are not many Egyptian games out there.

The game is launched cheap for a reason, a very sound reason. The developers left out speech to reduce development costs, therefore allowing their new licence to compete at a lower price to others and making it more likely people will give it a go. I honestly say that after the first 10 minutes you do not miss speech at all, the text and little 'noises' people make are more than enough. Think of Banjo-Kazooe or any of the other 'old' games with a mix between text and sound effects. This is not to say the sound department has been skimped on - the music is so good I want a soundtrack Sound effects etc are also outstanding.

I haven't finished the game yet, and I do hate the save system but I have found the savepoints are only too few and far between in the mummy sections. Sphinx himself gets plenty of savepoints and you can always go back a short distance to find one. All in all I cannot recommend this game enough, sure it has a few niggles but what game doesn't? If you like Zelda in 3D you will like this. It's available on all 3 consoles, not PC.

OK, I’ll stop gushing now As you may gather I really do like this game It is so good I find myself playing for a few hours at a time, rather than the usual 30 minutes.

Actually, the quote tag doesn't really override all other tags: there are no other tags when you manually copy and paste an entire textblock. Manual only copies raw/plain text, while the autoquote copies raw text including tags from the database.

Speaking of endings was I the only person who thought TOOT's ending was quite sad?
Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. Poor Link, he's the hero who saved Hyrule and he gets booted back to being a boy without even getting to stay for the victory party. He loses everything - friends, items, the ocarina, and more. I could never decide if he was turned into a boy in the adult time frame or sent back to the boy time frame to live without the 7 year sleep...must have been boy in adult setting because otherwise Gannondorf would still be around. Afterwards he wanders without a home or anything much to do, breaks up and hides his part of the triforce and falls through into Termina and we never know if he managed to get back...the Hero of Time Link has such a raw deal He becomes so...unneeded and belongs nowhere, but cannot stop being the hero he has become. Once again the boy without a fairy, but this time knowing he should have one.[/QUOTE]

I dearly miss OOT, and this thread has made me remember all the good times, with me and Epona, attempting Iniana Jones escapes from Gerudo fortress... That bloody Ganon and those friendly rock-eaters up in the mountains. That game was the sole reason for me getting my only C I ever got in math class. The game had such a sense of atmosphere-something WW never really had. WW had such a huge overworld, I just felt it was wasted by having so few people and towns. The sailing was monotonous, though getting that song which warped you places helped, it was still pretty bad. Though I must say the cell-shading was great, I missed the 3D.

As someone said- I used to spend hours down at the lake, fishing, trying to get the lunker. I remember you had to do something with the guy's wig or something to get the special lure. Never got it, because I blew it the first time I tried, and you only get one shot. But, I think I got that big fish eventually, anyway.

When I was an adult, I even would just go back in time to remember when I was a kid, and things were carefree. All I had to do was get a couple stones, and I'd be done. I had such a sense of satisfaction after I beat that game. I never was one for hunting down the skulltullas, though. Just caught them whenever I heard that telltale Scratch, scratch, scratch.

When I was a kid I used to stay out at night on purpose to fight those bloody skeletons.

Overall, it was the whole atmosphere, all the people you knew in the kingdom. I would go to Kakariko Village and just kind of hang around, or go to see Dante, before, well you know.
