In reading this entire line's description, Im pretty sure it gets triggered if your general kills his general. Im also pretty sure that it has to be the actual guy who kills him and not just your general's unit. I also suspect that it only happens from killing a King or a Prince or a General with more stars than your general, but Im not sure which.

How did you observed that?
good point---lets do through it.

Great Warrior: He has a natural talent for combat, making him less likely to die in battle.

Might Warrior: His reputation for skill at arms is spreading as his fighting skills grow

Famous Warrior: He is famous for his skill on the battlefield. Few can match him in single combat.

Lets look at what we know from these traits---we know he is good at combat and wont die easily. We know he must be using fighting skills, because his reputation in this regard is growing. We he must be gaining these traits by doing SOMETHING on the battlefield---we just dont know what it is.

Lets look at some clues. His reputation for skill at arms is growing---hmmmmmm, could his reputation be growing because he is engaging other people who have a good reputation for skill at arms (like kings, princes, high star generals??)??? We can suspect that there is something going on with single combat between your general and someone else---probably the other general.
