    Folks,

Couple of questions: do people think generals on the battlefield (as in the square-flag-carrier man) are ridiculously difficult to capture/kill, and; is there an easy way to mod things so they're a little less super-heroic?

I mean, I had a single Spanish general - OK, a royal knight, but just the one of him - pinned by a whole company of feudal sergeants, with a half-company of Swedish woodsmen charged into his rear, and he's killing a couple of FS here, a couple of woodsmen there, and he's *still* going, and *STILL* going, and another couple of FS are dead...

Many minutes - and getting on for a dozen dead Englishmen later - he finally goes down. OK, I'm happy that generals are a bit tougher to kill, but that seems a way out. I mean sure, he kills a couple of FS but then his horse gets five spears in it, he goes down and is hacked to pieces by two or three longaxes seems more realistic (that's how Bernard Cornwell would write it, anyway :-).

    Cheers,
    Ulair

Yes, the uber-generals. We were talking about this topic in the main room too. Basically as a general's valor goes up (especially for a king or prince), they have additional lives added through extra health. This means basically you have to kill these type of people more than once before they die. For more details, check the main room. They did mention they thought arrows, especially longbowmen, alabasters, and jinnetes (using javelins) were more likely to kill these guys quicker. Also just having units crash into him won't always do it; too many men just makes it more difficult to fight sometimes.

only two men can actually fight a man at a time so huge amount of men don't actually help. you can have infinite amounts of missiles attacking them though and AP units do really well.

I love using jinettes and mtd. X-bows on enemy kings and princes. I can usually severely thin out his unit through skirmishing alone and then focusing all my archers on him so he goes down.

it's still annoying to have 5-6 missile units shooting at one guy and him not going down for a while.

funny stories of unwanted heirs killing off hordes of enemies on one suicide mission after another though.

For sure A while back as early English I sent the cowardly Prince William into Wales on his own to try and get rid of him. Twice. Carved up the longbowmen until there was just him left, then ran. Finished up as king

I keep trying to shoot these uber-generals down but they tend to be mounted and move too darn fast...
