Thread: I'm an idiot, I really am...

Ok, I've recently started playing aorund with mods and after a few tries decided to go back to plain old M:tw.

I copied all my saves and such over to a seperate place, then hit uninstall, so as to re-install afresh, only to my horror to realise halfway through the uninstallation process that I have lent out my copy of MTW, and actually only have the VI CD with me at the moment, and am not likely to get the MTW CD back soon.

So, I hastilly hit cancel, and try to run the game, but it comes up with an error. Oh crap, some bits were uninstalled. So, I try repairing it (through the unstall menu) and it doesn;t change a thing other than locations of shortcuts and stuff liket hat, nothing in the TW forder changes.

So, other than bashing my head against a wall repeatedly for my idiocy, what do I do? how do I restore it all, saves or not, when I don;t have the original CD?

I'm not asking someone to send me the files, it would probably have to be the whole lot and thats far to big to send anyway, I;m just asking if theres anything I can do to make it work.

    The error i get is

    'Colum_building_faction_association

unknown faction specified: column 20, row 8

    FN_EGYPTIAN'
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

    You're screwed.

Happened to me and I was freaking out. I too loaned MTW to a friend. Luckily I had made a backup folder of the entire directory.

    Bad luck :(

Dude that happened to me also, but i fixed it by uninstalling everything in the total war folder and re-installing again.

Had it too. I localised the problem (even tried to fix it)but after doing so even more sht came up... Only way I could solve it was by re-installing the total-war folder like Julius Caesar.

yep, this type of error is most serious and probably requires reinstall.

I usually see this when I mod and type in something wrong but then I fix it and it works.

however, if FN_Egyptians is not even defined or recognized by the game, there is no way that it can work.

I know that you can play regular MTW from the VI CD but I doubt that you can get anything back if you did kill vital stuff.

Have you tried installing VI over the damaged installation? might that fix it?
