    I was wondering if any modder here could give me some advice on a problem that has risen in KekvitMod version 2.3 (the one with the Irish and Scottish).
    The problem is when I set the Scots to have Highland Clansmen as their royal unit and the Irish to have Gallowglasses as their royal unit. Instead of Highland Clansmen, the Scots have Early/High/Late Royal Knights as their royal unit, and instead of Gallowglasses the Irish have Late Royal Knights (in the Early era).
    Could anyone check the files and figure out what the heck is going wrong with these two? This is driving me nuts

    I had a similar problem once. I wanted Viking Huscarles as royal unit in Early for Danes, but after doing the changes I still got Royal Knights, and they were from all eras too. The problem was solved by simply moving the Viking Huscarle unit above the Royal Knights on the list in the unit_prod.txt. Not sure why, but it seems to be something hardcoded with those RKnights.

    However, if I remember correctly both Highland Clansmen and Gallowglasses are already above the knight units, so I'm not sure this is the same problem.

    Wierd. I've even moved FN_FREE21 and FN_FREE22 from their original spots to Royal Knights (all eras), and the Irish STILL get Late Royal Knights in the Early era.
    It's wierd since the Swiss have no problem with having SAPs as their royal unit.

    I found the same problem when I created Rus Royal Cavalry for Novgorod {and eventually Kiev} Early royal unit .

    I had done similar earlier but using Pronoiai Allagion and found I had to deny them the Byzantines to do this .

    When I tried this new unit and found the Novgorod were still getting Boyars as Royal , I realised that the first eras royal unit must come before any later periods' royal unit for that faction {this is why Early , High and Late Royal Knights and Ghulams are listed in proper order in CrusaderBuild11} .
    I moved my new unit to just before {above} Boyar and viola It worked

    Naturally , this seems to screw up replays from games with different units order {if any of those units come from above the entry for a new unit} , but I can live with that

    I'm not going to change for the other three .

    This is an interesting problem,
    Question when doing your mod file do you make your own Unit prod files and declare it in startpos?

    NTW Example:
    Prodfiles:: UNITPROD "NAP_b3f_unit_prod.txt" BUILDINGPROD "NAP_b3f_build_prod.txt"

    when I say make your own, of course I mean a unit prod with the units the way you choose to have them for your mod?
    a copy of the unit prod, make all entries as you wish them to appear in your mod, re-name the file say "kekvit_unit_prod.txt" and declare it in the startpos file under the proper heading.
    I am not sure if this will help merely my suggestion,
    you may in fact already have done so
    I use our mod NTW as example , we have an entirely new line up of units with no conflicts, so maybe this will help?...LOS

    Try specifying no royal unit for the Scots. This make make it go to the first in unit prod which is Highland Clansmen. Can't think of anything for the Irish.

    Hi kekvitirae Mistress of the Engineers Guild, (Can’t help being an idiot from time to time)

    Can you send me a zip of the Startpost file you use and the unit_prod file?
    Most probably it has to do with the declarations for the new factions.

    Cheers

    It's a mere 600k compared to my usual updates, now that I'm split off the custom graphics from the main updates.

    @kekvit,

    Have you sorted your problem?

    I had similar weird stuff. When I created the Tagmata for the byzantines. (edit of kataprhaktoi) the early period starts with the emperor as kats but changes to tagmata at 1205-high period. I didnt ask for the game to do that.

    But I do now have two entries for different units for one faction's leader. This is also true of siphai of the porte for turks. I had a thought that the periods that the unit is available might be an issue?

    Im rambling and probably not helping.

    The Highland Clansmen for FN_FREE22 (Scotland) works perfectly now, but FN_FREE21 (the Irish) refuse to use anything but Late Royal Knights.
    I've even switched FN_FREE21 to FN_01 in every mention in the files, but still nothing.
