Hey all, I am seriously considering picking up COD after having beaten MOHAAS several times I *need* a WWII FPS. I was wondering what any of your who ownit/ have played it think?

Also on a different not I d/l the burnville demo and the menu text was like little white blocks and when I guessed my way through the menu into the game everything was blue wtf?

I searched google and I found that several other people were complaining of the same problem on gaming forums, but only about the demo, in other words no one seems to be having a problem with the game itself...

anyhoo your input is greatly appreciated

COD, probably the best WWII shooter there is. Though the British campaign lacks a bit (you will have that lonewolf feeling after the first few levels) The American and Russian campaigns are very fun. Seeing AI teammates running by getting shot and exploding into red clouds of blood, the first time threw it was almost enough to make me think i was in multiplay. (though i figured out i wasn't soon enough) The Russian campaign is by far the best of the three, you start out as a conscript on the Volga river heading into Stalingrade, and from right on you are in the action. Stuka dive bombers make machine gun passes at your boat and nearly kill you, then its off into the dock where russian commanders shout propoganda while you are shoved into a line trying to get a rifle. It reminded me of the begining of Enemy at the gates.

The American campaign was just as fun, you drop in on normandy behind enemy lines and find yourself fending off whole divisions of troops. The AI is very good, actually thats an understatement, even on the lowest difficulty setting i was getting killed. Your team will take up defensive positions and cover, while they provide cover fire for you to advance and complete the objective. They have great AI and thouh they will lead the way, it's up to you to accomplish the objectives.

Though i was very dissapointed with the British campaign as it reminded me of the lonewolf gameplay of nearly all the other shooters, i was very happy with the other 2/3 of the game.

Controls are basic for any fps, wsda for movement and ect. sound was impressive, gets loud alote though . Though i am not a big fan of WWII games, i have made an exception for COD. As PC gamer put it It's Medal of Honor done right and i can't say it any better.

I second Monk's remarks. COD is great. Unlike Monk, i liked the british campaign as well. the solo missions were a nice break from the squad based levels. all campaigns have their cool aspects though.

what makes COD better than MOH (besides better graffics and game play) is the squad team mates are actually helpful, and their deaths will not cause you to loose a level or reward. in MOH, my team mates would rush to their deaths, and i hated them for their burden on me, but in COD, i find myself enjoying their assistance.

one thing i learned is that it must have sucked to be a russian soldier, more so than in the other campaigns.

I thought the British bridge mission was the best of the game. It really is a fantastic looking game, the graphics and sound and intensity are really something. But I find it too linear and forced. You MUST do this, then you MUST go there.

Hidden & Dangerous 2 is IMHO abetter game for replayability. Great grahics and sound nice character building (medals, experience, promotions), great variety of missions, but most of all, it is much, much more free form than COD. You can do most missions back-assward if you want to. Lots of style choices for how you play. From stealthy to ultra-violent. Much better replayabitlity and imagination.

I agree with you, if you notice, on the second part of that mission as your squad mates are fireing in all directions trying desperately to hold back the Germans, you will hear a sort of dramatic music start to play. I have to say as i was letting loose with my Bren gun taking down enemy soldiers one after the other, then running to the 88 trying to put down the tanks coming in as my team were being shot all around me, it nearly brought a tear to my eyes. But after that the British campaign becomes a one man war, as a lot of other WWII games seem to do, and thats why i am a bit disappointed by it.

Its good but dont expect to play it a lot.

even the multiplayer got boring since all the maps have 2 ways to get to any point and both ways turn into a Choke point wich gets spammed with nades for 1/2 the match.

I'll have to agree with that as well. Though I haven't played CoD itself I have played the demos.
BTW there are also 2 demos out for Hidden and Dangerous 2 (MP and SP):

I'm not much on the FPS wild side, but I liked Call of Duty even more than I liked MOHAA, MOHAA being my nummero uno for a long time. A lot of my friends switched sides over from Wolfenstein, MOHAA and Battlefield and went for the COD. Not to mention my better half; she enjoys the game and whenever she is free and in for some FPS, Call of Duty is on the menu

Can't vouch for the single player game because i only played multiplayer at a mates house, but i prefered the multiplayer of MOHAAS . I suppose if you keep MOH installed for multiplay and CoD for single play, you get the best of both worlds

I disagree. CoD doesn't lose anything that AA had in MP, and adds quite a large amount.

Dont buy Cod if you want MP games.

    im warning you.

Cheating is now completely rampant and aimbots are everywhere.

not 20 minutes ago i was in a game where 3 bloody noobs had aimbots installed.

    was so completely gay.

and you will play single player once then not realy bother with it again.

Nah K_Y, ya prolly just happened to meet a few of the _good_ players out there. Any player worth his salt can own newbie servers with a kill ratio of 10:1.

Well seriously, there are cheaters of course (it's a quake engine game after all) but they're only a minor problem on a properly moderated server. Just wait for Punkbuster support; it's to be included in the 1.3 patch, supposedly out within days. It should help, at least a bit.

IMO CoD is most fun as a clan game. It doesn't reward players for teamplay like ET does, and I think ET is much more enjoyable on public servers and pickup teams. CoD needs fairly good teams on both sides to work well.

If anyone's playing CoD on-line .I recommend you download the Heat of Battle mod.(Call of Duty Org ,will point you in the right direction.)
It's a new game ,where both sides have to capture and hold objectives. It rewards team play ,has new maps ,the lot.
Been playing it for the last couple of evenings.Great fun

Call of Duty is a great game.

Personally I really liked all the Missions. The American and Soviet Campaigns were great and really had that war feeling.

The British Missions were far from bad in my view, they just focused on a different aspect of the War (British Commando Raids) and they are hard.

The Truck chase and Airfield escape were a nightmare for me, i died so many times I lost count My fave Mission for the Brits had to be holding that Bridge... I was running around everywhere blowing up tanks with Nazis comming in from all directions

Stalingrad was the high point, just like the beginning of Enemy at the Gates in a boat crossing the river comming under fire and when I get in line to get a weapon, I'm one of the unlucky sods who doesn't get a rifle (and then I have to run around drawing machine gun fire for some Sniper guy)

In short it is a totally awesome shooter, and is well worth a look.

Call of Duty is a bit too arcadey for me.

This mod makes the game a bit less arcadey although not enough to make me completely happy. Also it's added in a G43 and plans to add the M3 Grease gun among other weapons.

I actually tried the Multiplayer the other night and it is practically impossible... You'd be lucky to last 3 seconds.

As someone has already said, aimbots seem to be rampant.

Call of Duty is my favorite FPS right now. I havent tried any mods yet but I might do it soon and there are some very good looking mods in development.

Some servers might be haunted by aimbotters more than others. But the servers I normally play on there are active admins and its not a problem.

I've played loads online ,and don't think I've ever come across an aimbot.
Some very good shots ,but after getting used to the pace ,I've pulled off some pretty good shots myself.
There are a few other good mods ,btw.I like the realism severs .Where you don't get cross-hairs or those little flag things floating above your head .Although I did nearly get kicked once for killing 3 of my own team in a row ,but war's hell.
The merciless mods fun.All that blood ,great stuff.
    That's it.
