    Thumbs up

I just want to share a beat or excitement.
Well, what to say, I like playing games, even if I have 34 years old, have few of them which I constantly play and wait for new pack or new edition release. They are Doom, Duke Nukem, Ghost Recon, Delta Force, Medal of Honor, Wolfenstein, Age of empires, NBA live, FIFA.
But also my social and cultural life is wide open for everything. It?s not just games.

They?re all interesting and have something specific. But Shogun and Medieval are something extraordinary. Especialy Medieval.

Immediately it brings me back to that time, and when the map with armies appear, I?m on the field, feel the morning quiet moment and fresh of the air, and for the couple of minutes later the iron and power will cover all around and the best leader will take everything. It?s hard to express how this game has a big influence. It?s not a just a game, it?s more. It?s a life philosophy. If you not beat the army your beaten, if you don?t win, your lose, but you lose more than a game. Maybe someone will say, here is another lunatic?.

And good thing of this game is, you can play one campaign for couple of days, easily and tactical make plan?s, like everything else in your life.

The difference and advantage of this game is much more reality on the field. Other games of this type have worst interface, impossible moves and other things, which immediate take you away. Constantly for last two years Medieval is my favorite non-deleting desktop icon

Also I like more close combat, face to face, than lunch a rocket and use magic to beat the enemy.
Sun Tsu is the master of command

Shogun was good, Medieval is brilliant, and Rome?? I can?t even think about it ?

You're making me smile Duke. There's nothing quite like a game that grabs you and won't let go. I'm sorely tempted to reach for my copy of MTW/VI and play some, but I'm dyin' because I know my wife will be home very soon and will need the PC for homework. I need to get her a laptop for that...

Anyway, the TW games have ruined other war type games I've come across. Nothing I've seen yet compares well with them...and I don't care 'cuz I'm happy.

Yep, Crazy Duke, I know what your saying The Total War games are much more then a game They teach you history, how real battles were faught in those time periods, the kinds of technology used, and it's not mucked up by insane Hollywood style antics. Just pure, thoughtful, and real

And like Gregoshi, I hold other war games to the Total War standard and very few are as good I really believe RTW will be so far above the competition that it will start a new generation of war games and war gamers.

Tell me how crazy I am... I usally play the campaign & battle portions until it gets close to time to go to bed. Then I posture myself for a huge battle, save, and quit for the night. In the morning, over that first cup of coffee, I let 'er rip If I win, I'm unstoppable at work, all day. If I lose, well, let's just say for everyone else's sake, I avoid all dialogue.

Yeah, like GREGOSHI said, I'm totally addicted. I've stayed up until dawn on more than one occassion. Only admit this 'cause you guys don't know me.

Nothing I've played even comes close. Granted the battle map graphics could be a little better. RTW will be. Might have to upgrade a little. Don't care. Mods' are even better than original game.

Yes, MTW is the best. I get tired of the battles after a while, but no other pc game comes close in quality.

I have family in Antwerp, & a long interest in history-having taught & written same. Wargame similations are therefore my favorites. I specially enjoy wargame similations with strong strategy sides-such as MTW. The location of MTW- Europe and the ancient world (the center) is another favorite aspect of the game for me.

I like Europa a bit, however it lacks eye-candy & gets boring after a short while. Whatever country you play in Europa, you end up doing essentially the same things. The battles lack imagination and artistic beauty.

AOE2 is beautifully designed, but as an RTS (the best RTS) but an RTS, becomes a clickfest. It is more tactical & clickaful (new word) and less strategic.

The LOTR3 producer developers blew an opportunity to expand on the promising LOTR2 which had many similarities to the Total War design.

Warfare in the turn-based Talonsoft games is beautifully depicted but underprogrammed. You cannot choose sides and rarely are able to defend as the a1 was not programmed to attack for the most part (attacking and shooting involves more programming than sitting, getting triggered, and defensively shooting).

One can examine many good games and see how far in the lead in terms of playability and quality is the Totalwar series. I am sure RTW will be fine. The staff at Totalwar seem to have great pride in what they produce-that extends beyond mere $profit making (the profit making-of course-does not suffer from their producing quality products). There is a lesson in there for other businesspeople. But I degress.

Just wanteed to add a suggestion about Tactical/strategial games.
If you wanted so,ething like AOE but with improved battelfield tactics, try Praetorians. It lacks a bit of variety in the units, but its beautiful graphically.

I find the MTW series one of the best games I've ever played. When I read some reviews on the Net, my first impression was that MTW looked like an updated & refined LotR. But,hey, it's so much more than that. I love the historical touch given by the royal family trees and the huge variety of units. It's great preparing your armies to take over half of Europe. I just only can't get a good grip on my economies. (I'll have to play MTW more ).
For the moment, I can't even imagine that the day will come that I'll get bored with MTW. *thinking* ... Nah, not possible.

All games are different and not easy to compare. MTW is the best war game ever so I have great expectations for RTW. I still dream of a blend between MTW, EUII and CIVIII though... drooool
