Here in the United States, Far Cry received a rating of M, or Mature, from industry ratings group, the ESRB. In the past, the German government has banned certain games it deemed too violent for its citizens, including such titles as Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and the Command & Conquer: Generals real-time strategy game.

Ubisoft announced plans to produce a youth-rated version of Far Cry for the German market. There is no current ETA on its completion. Meanwhile, Far Cry is widely available in North America and the rest of Europe.
