    Welcome to The Org Berserkers

Early in the campaign you fight battles of 6-10 units, or about 300-600 men. Later on, it is not uncommon to fight battles with thousands of men on a side. The largest battle I have ever seen had 18,000 men on one side.

Battles max out at 16 units per side at any one time, but when a unit gets annihilated or runs away there can be reinforcements. Usually there are 700-900 men per side on the field in this case.

In Multi-Player, every person gets 16 units, and there can be 4 players per side (so about 3000-4000 men per side).

You might want to take off capslock. It makes it seem like you're shouting, and that isn't exactly necessary in an internet forum

But yes, battles can get quite large, although generally you have a max of around 1600 guys (16 units of 100) under your control at one time. The rest are sitting off at the edge of the map ready to be called upon when any of your units are destroyed/routed/withdrawn. Basically, if you have multiple allies and enemies on the battlefield the number of troops that can be seen on the screen at one time can be immense (several thousands), although you will only be able to control a portion of them. You can also adjust the size of the units if you're having performance issues, so for instance instead of having a unit of 100 spearmen it would be more like 30. This doesn't really affect the outcomes of the battles that much of course, because the enemies get the same reductions.

Basically, you can have huge battles between tens of thousands of guys, but you will only be see and command between 1000-2000 of them at a time. Which is good, because it's already hard enough to control 16 units. Imagine controlling 30 of them...

early in the campaign the numbers rare exceed 500 on each side.

It's interesting to have 1 unit of clansmen and trying to fend off several enemy archer units etc.

I actually like the small battles a lot.

Then you have 1k-3k on both sides for the rest of early.

When Mongols arrive, they would likely appear with 20k+. These are the most epic battles around.

However, later in the campaign, you see many more troops.

It's scary to scout and see 40k+ turks or eggy troops eat up the mongols like nothing and realize you'll have to face these troops soon.
