I love your rightful sence of humor And i am sad for all the spam imposed upon the vonerable young patrons...
"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."

Surprised Greg didn't close this thread when he posted :p

JAG, it just depends how bad the stench of SPAM gets in this topic.

Actually, I'd rather not close threads - too much thought required.

    Should I close this thread?

Being all bad isn't such a bad thing, it does have its good points ;)

In attempt to make this thread worthwhile, I invite everyone to write what odds they would lay on peace in the Middle East together with an explanation.

Actually spam has gotten a bad rap. It doesn't taste all that bad, and it's a good source of protein and fat. Burp. Always have a can or two in the cupboard, just in case the revolution starts.

    Thumbs down

    Ahem

Have a pity please We EH moderators have to read all the post looking for new Junior Patrons, helping them (and others) who need it and getting to know the JPs so we can promote them. This rash of SPAMing topics is wasting our time and interfering with our work. A little SPAM never hurt anyone and is even fun every now and then, but it is getting a little out of hand lately. We have outlets for those primal SPAMing urges, so please use them.

And you're also making me feel like a meanie having to stomp on your fun

Perhaps we should tie one of them to the main mast and . Boost up the discipline. My guess is that this Demon of Twilight figure is behind all of this. 'Nuff said.

PS After careful consideration, I believe I am aiding this spam myself as well. THE BAN for me too, then…

This is both amusing and quickly ceasing to be amusing at the same time. Amusing in the sense that I am being threatened by someone who neither outranks me or has seniority over me as a moderator. (jokingly or not but I lean towards voigtkampf being entirely serious due to the lack of anything even vaguely humorous in his posts)Quickly ceasing to be amusing in the sense that there is a genuine note of animosity present here that quite frankly seems grossly out of place.

I don't know what the complaint is because I haven't seen anything articulated on that subject. The result is that I'm going to have to guess. The objection would either appear to be that I am attempting to create more spam or that I am introducing an inflammatory subject (I can't even begin to imagine what motivation would be assigned to me in the latter case). Both points can be answered with the same rebuttal.

I have been noticing the same trend that Gregoshi pointed out in his post. Lots of spamming threads. It was my intent to save Gregoshi the trouble of dealing with ANOTHER spamming thread (reading the posts, issueing warnings and eventually shutting it down) by turning the thread towards the discussion of a legitimate topic. I thought about it for a few minutes and chose the Middle East as the topic. Maybe 15 seconds later, I came up with the mechanism (odds on peace) by which I would be soliciting opinions. The subject is a legitimate one so there was no intent to spam. My language was nothing that even approaches baiting so I can't be said to be inviting a flame war.

Nowhere near 'nuff said. I'm not in the habit of allowing myself to be characterized inaccurately. Again, I'm really not entirely certain what you are accusing me of (despite any educated guesses I might make) but the entire characterization of me being the ringleader of some negative action simply does not match up with either my intent or my actions.

Further, I am not in the habit of capitulating to demands made by people with no authority over me. Mind you, outranking a person on an internet gaming site really isn't anything that means a whole lot but just on principle I would point out that we hold the same rank and that I've had mine longer (thus seniority if that counts for anything). I'm not trying to hit you over the head with my rank. I simply want to point out that I am not at all under your jurisdiction in this matter. You aren't an Entrance Hall moderator and absent that you don't hold a higher rank.

That brings me to the next part of my reply: TEH BAN. I really wouldn't be within my rights to even bring up rank if the shadow of administrative action hadn't been involved. We would simply have a disagreement otherwise. It was brought up though so here I am. With respect to the internet community here, (though certainly not in the real world thankfully) there is a great deal of weight attached to a moderator introducing the spectre of a ban. That really is the point at which I am forced to respond. Please understand that I say this with no malice or anger but I'll not stand to be threatened when I am not at fault by someone without the authority to issue threats to me. It simply isn't something I'll let pass without a response. (You could in some hideously unfair world convince someone with power to sanction me but the power to issue the sanction is still not your own)

I invite you to respond to me here but if you prefer, PM me. Please understand that if there is no response at all I'll simply copy the text of my post to a PM and send it to you. If you don't want to talk about it, please state so. In the alternative, please note that I can be very persistant.

Gregoshi: The meaning of the post is pretty clear but I am uncertain regarding the intent, motivation, and intended audience. Please advise. A PM in this case would be preferable.

Sorry for the confusion. The you was directed at a group, i.e., those who have been SPAMing. Deep down in each person's heart, they know whether or not their posts have a legitimate point or if the sole intention is to increase their post count via SPAM. It is to those who know they've been indulging in SPAM that I address.

I use PM a lot to contact patrons about good things and bad things they do, so I would have PMed you if I had a message specifically for you - one way or another.

Upon further review, this thread pretty much outlived its intended purpose after about the 7th or 8th post. Topic closed.
