Now be careful with those spoilers people

First up I would have to say Half Life

Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. Who can forget when you finally beat the game and Briefcase man appears on the train carriage travelling through space and offers you a job? You accept, walk out the door and the screen goes black...........................

    Name: Gordon Freeman

    Mission: Awaiting asignment

    awesome............

Of course you can choose not to walk out the door and get those "unbeatable enemies". Its hilarious
Then theres good old Shogun. After fighting the seemingly endless hordes of peasant from the East you are finally ruler of Japan

Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. and you get that really cool movie flying over Japan with the cool voiceover, ending with a nice little FMV clip of modern Japan with a statue of you in the middle of a busy road, neon lights etc. Very nice, and all part of the ambience that makes Shogun possibly the most atmospheric game ever
Finally, for now there is NHL 2004. As any fan of hockey will tell you, the on-ice Stanley Cup winning celebrations are unbelievable. The Stanley Cup is probably the toughest trophy to win in team sports and it shows when a team wins it. So many ice hockey games have had you play 100+ games to win the Stanley Cup and when you finally do, if you're lucky you get a 10 second shot of the players with the cup. Hell, some of them don't even have that, you get a picture of the Stanley Cup with your teams name underneath it. GAH Not so with NHL 2004

Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. As the hooter blows to signal the end of the Cup winning game, you stay in the game engine which has superb graphics & animation. All your players jump over the bench, dropping their sticks, throwing their gloves into the air and head for a big team pile up centered on the goalie. Lots of shots of smiling players hugging before it cuts away to the opposition. When I won the cup with Ottowa, Paul Kariya was down on one knee, leaning on his stick with a look of utter despair on his face, I swear it looked like he was about to cry. It was awesome. Cut to more shots of your players hugging before another shot of the opposition skating dejectedly off the ice. Then your captain skates up to collect the cup. The crowd roars as he lifts the cup above his head. Finally it cuts away to your team grouping together for the traditional on-ice team photo with the cup. The flashbulbs go off and the picture freezes with that shot...........and you think that was awesome, the best celebration of winning the cup ever seen in a game.

But wait Theres more Then you get a close up of each of your players in the photo with their Goals, Assists, Points, plus/minus and Penalty minutes. One by one it goes through your team and I felt a real attatchment to my players, it felt like they were all my heroes. But then finally after 5 minutes or more, its over and its time to sign those free agents, draft those rookies and start the next season cos you want to win the cup and see those celebrations again
Deus-ex. The whole area 51 level is the ending, it really made me think what was best for the world. This is one of my most memorable gaming moments ever, I actually felt sorry for JC because this was all so much bigger then him. Absolutely amazing.

On the other side, I enjoyed TIE fighter endings and, sure thing, Fallout 1 & 2 endings. And not to forget, Resident Evil 1&2 as well

Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of time. Seeing goo fly out of Ganon, the big party with all of the Sages, Zelda sending Link back, Navi flying off, and then the screen goes sepia tinted, 'the end' appears, and you stare at the screen for about 5 minutes, sad because the best game ever is over. Finally, you switch off the console. Magical.

Baldur's Gate. The ending was quite satisfying after such a hard fight... nevertheless it wasn't surprising.

The ending of Baldur's Gate II wasn't that impressive... a bit vague at most. The ending of Throne of Bhaal, on the other hand...

OoT's ending was cool, but imo tWW's ending was more satisfying.

Whereas I found BGs ending a letdown. You don't even get the chance to loot Sarevoks body before you get a 10 second FMV and its all over

I gotta pick up ToB one day and finally complete the destiny of Lady Deburah of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart.

    I liked OoT the best.

I don't think the Stanley Cup is that hard to win. Baseball has something to the tune of 162 regular season games... Plus the playoffs and World Series.

The 1st Onimusha.... when Samonoske kills the Lord of the demons in a big bloody mess. Then the demon lord comes back to like, squeezes the life out of our hero untill he pukes blood on the gaundlet and becomes a demon himself THEN kills the demon king for good and then Nobunaga apears.... good stuff...
"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."

In the World Series playoffs, do the players have to have intravenous drips to keep them hydrated? Do they play with cracked ribs, broken ankles, fractured wrists? Do they have black eyes & stitches in their face? Are they willing to throw their bodies in front of a block of solid rubber travelling at 90mph to stop a shot?

They may play more games in MLB, but they barely work up a sweat doing it.

How could I forget? Star Wars: KotOR, one of the best endings ever. Next time I'll have to try out the Dark Side ending.

The Dark Side ending was very satisfying

Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. the only gripe I had is that this annoying Carth Onasi ran away when it came down to killing off all the "good guys" in the party - WTF ... he was the guy I really wanted to kill
I found both endings for KOTOR to be somewhat disappointing, but the dark ending was more satisfying then the light one...until you remember that Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. Your character and Bastila will fight each other, then the survivor will be killed by someone else. Even worse if you were male and did the romance - what a lovely romantic epic, two Jedi who fall in love and chop each other up into tiny pieces.
The lightside ending just didn't tell you anything about what happened to the characters, heck if you played out one of the romances the significant other didn't even do anything different to in the non-romance ending. It's all very well having an open ending, but far too much was left unsaid.

Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. Is it possible that there are different options? In my Dark Side game I was romancing Bastila and at the end we were both Dark Jedis and the fleet of the Republic was destroyed by Bastila's battle medidation ~:D
Edit: hm ... just noticed that my post looks a bit weird ... replying to a blank field with another blank field...

That's the ending I got, but you would assume Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. that they still have feelings for each other at that point, as the darkside has not yet had time to eat away at that. Give it a few months and they'll be consumed by ambition, trying to kill each other and rule alone as Sith Lord, but for now it seems to me that two fallen Jedi would rather enjoy sticking two fingers up at Jedi beliefs by having a relationship.
Kind of sad really.

What can be a better ending than the Legacy of Kain when Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. Raziel becomes the "soul" of Soul Reaver of the Kain and the once enemies become one and kill the elder god?
Actually all endings of the Soul Reaver series are amazing.

I liked the Fallout 2 ending. The in-game stuff, on an oil rig, reminded me of the endings of James Bond films and I was impressed a game could pull that off. The final cinematic, telling you the fate of the areas you went to and making it clear that what you did there had impacted on them for better or for worse was strangely moving.

The uncovering of the main plot twist in Kotor, whilst not the ending of the game (and also one I had had spoiled for me) was still very nice - the revelatory sequence was a fun homage to the end of the Usual Suspects and similarly took your breath away.
