I've downloaded some tools for RTW. I hope that some of them will help with portraits. Are you still interested?

When you feel satisfied, send me your work and I'll make installer for it.
Just send me packed files which have been altered against last installer made by me.

Also try to not exceed 10 MB size of files sent via e-mail. Split it or upload it somewhere.

Thanks for your work. I and many community members appreciate it.
    Belisarivs:

    Hi

I think I found a solution to providing everyone with credit for working on the mod now, and in the past. Basically, I did up the loading screen, whereby, Max is given sole credit for the mod itself, while in a seperate section, people are listed for the work they did on each verison. I think everyone should be happy with this

I think the idea with the RTW portraits is an excellent idea. However, as has been noted in previous posts, in lieu of not having any alternative, I opted to go with a classical statue look for the portraits. It was exhaustive work, but I think I found all I need for the mod. And they look good! I even think they look better than having the RTW portraits, and it does give the mod its own distinctive look and feel. Thanks for the offer though

I am getting near completion of version 3.1. I'll probaby have to upload it and I'll send you the link for download.

    Cheers!

But i dont think Max mind that you all are finishing this mod i think he would be proud. I am and i think i am talking for a lot of people
    Many thanks axel

    Appreciate your very kind words.

A Punic War campaign based on this mod would be terrific

    Hi axel:

I blitzed through a campaign as the Vandals until 560 AD and I had NO game freeze or CTDs. In fact, I've had no problems playing this mod at all.

I am not sure what the problem can be with your campaign. Maybe it's a corrupt file? Maybe, it's one of a random act?

    Thanks for the RTW portraits.

However, I have opted for the classic statue look and they are all done!

You can be sure that the new portraits will spiffy up your game! Really helps with the immersion factor.

    Version 3.1 is almost done.

Here is a little preview of all of the changes I have made in FoR for version 3.1.

There are many, many changes, and I think you should see quite a difference in your gaming experience.

In particular there are now 286 NEW portraits that have been added to the game, and I have now added portraits for the Assassins and Spies!

    Here are the changes:

    1) All known bugs to date have been fixed in version 3.1.

    2) There are 32 NEW pictures for the Info_picture parchment pages.

    3) All ships, for all factions, now have era-appropriate info-pics such as Triremes, Biremes, etc.

    4) All Roman factions now have full colour info_pics representing many of their respective units.

    5) There are 286 NEW portrait pictures for the King, General, Admiral, Emissary, Assassin, Spy, Prince, and Princess folders for all the Roman factions.

    6) The Crusader_building txt file was over-hauled, shortening build times for many buildings. Most building prerequisites, however, have NOT been changed. This should reduce the frustration, but not the challenge, of building military units. This should be a big boost to both the AI and player alike, since many buildings are often destroyed when a province has been invaded. This reduced building time should help get the players up to speed again when faced with having to re-build specific buildings.

    7) All siege engines and siege buildings have been removed from the game. No factions, including rebels, will have siege units. The AI is too incompetent to use siege equipment. By eliminating these units and buildings, the AI will now concentrate its funds and time on building useful buildings and military units. The AI will now field armies only with useful military units.

    8) Second and third tier Foundry Buildings will now produce a modest income in addition to improving faction stats such as morale.

    9) Certain Barbarian buildings such as “Barbarian Invasion”, “Warrior Hold”, etc will improve faction unit statistics such as morale, valour, discipline, etc. Right click on the appropriate buildings to see the specific trait boost.

    10) The Crusader_units txt file was reviewed, resulting in numerous changes to many units' stats. For example, ships for all factions, in all periods have now been balanced. All units in all Roman factions have been balanced. Generally, the more expensive the unit, the better it will be.

    11) Orthodox Bishops, Cardinals, Inquisitors, and GrandInquisitors have been removed from the game.

    12) The buildings - “Cathedral”, “Monastary”, “Reliquary” - are still buildable. However, instead of producing their respective agents (the Orthodox Bishops, Cardinals, Inquisitors, and GrandInquisitors), they will now increase morale AND produce a modest income.

    13) Bishops are buildable, but they are available ONLY in the LATE period, and, in addition to needing the Church, you will also need to build Shipyard4 and Foundry3. This will result in almost never seeing Bishops in the game.

    14) There is a new loading screen picture in keeping with the Roman theme. This indicates the version of the mod as well as listing mod credits.

    15) All parchment info screens have been edited for spelling, grammer, etc....

Nice work, this will be a significant improvement! When approaching the credits, be sure that NodachiSam is given credit for creating the new map (with Roman province names).

    I've over-hauled everything.

I found a number of units' stats were unbalanced. The ship stats in particular are just one example. The same goes for a number of Roman units.

But it still won't be easy. For every plus I've given the Romans (reduced build time), I've also given one to the barbarians (increased morale with barb invasions).

I'm way a head of you re: NodachiSam

His map is superb, and adds so much to the game....

I've pretty much included everyone I could locate either in this thread or in Max's readme who contributed a significant amount of time to this mod....

    Cheers!

You won't have long to wait, axel.

I'm just tidying up some loose ends here and there and testing everything out in-game. As always, I find the odd niggle here and there, and I'm re-touching a few pics as well....

I want everything to be perfect for you guys

Also, you wanted an Attila Campaign. Well, there is one already in the mod... well, sort of...

If you play the West Romans in the "Last Stand" campaign, the Huns will come-a-calling before you know it.

In fact, I'm going to post a few screen shots of my current game.

  13. #883

Default Re: Fall of Rome - Total War

Here is the first screenshot of one of my current games as the West Romans. This is looking west of Italy. I have beaten off many attacks, and have just recently regained two lost provinces.

I want to go on the offensive but whomever I attack, means that I have other countries waiting on my borders to attack me, in return.

I am currently also being attacked at sea. So this means building a fleet to protect Italy from sea invasion. I have almost no troops in Italy, as they are all on my borders to stop the invasions.

And my economy is practically maxed out.

Right now the powerful Vandals and Huns (the Huns are just to the east of me. You'll see them in the next screenshot) are neutral. Heaven help me if they decide to go "Barbarian" on me. I have requested an alliance with the Huns several times, but each time the Khan politely says "not at this time" and "I have no intention of attacking you" even while he's busy whomping the daylights out of the East Romans.

    Yeah, right....

Here is the next screenshot. It is looking east of Italy. I am the red player. You'll notice that the Huns (olive green) are perched nicely on my eastern borders, while the Germans (black) are busy sharpening their swords on my northern borders. And as usual, there are lots of "Barbarian Invasion" markers sitting menacingly near my lands.

It will take just one mistake on my part and all hell will break loose. Those dang barbarian hordes are just waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

Actually, one Barbarian Invasion Maker (loaded with Visigoths) did break through my borders and invaded Italy. It took me forever to trap and destroy it. It kept hopping from province to province, and I had to scrounge up the troops to surround it. I don't want that to happen again.

Meanwhile, the Huns have taken several provinces from the East Romans (purple). I think it will be just a matter of time before Mr. Hun turns his attention towards me.

The Huns have battled their way to the Mediterranean Sea and they are building ports and shipyards. That means I have to keep building more ships. Without naval superiority, Italy will be lost. I simply don't have the income and troops to protect everything. In Italy, all I have in the various provinces are some low level garrison troops. It seems that wise Mr. Hun senses this and is building his little fleet of ships to come pay me a visit...

Here is the full Readme of Fall of Rome version 3.1

*** Fall of Rome version 3.1 Mod for Medieval Total War - Viking Invasion ***

This mod is intended only for personal use and not for commercial use.

Thank you for downloading and playing Fall of Rome v3.1.

I'm a gamer just like you, and I enjoyed playing Fall of Rome Mod v3.0 by Max. However, it still felt unfinished, and since the original mod creator had moved on to other things, I thought it would be fun to "finish" this mod by making many changes to it, especially graphically.

Version 3.1 is the result of the changes I have made to the Fall of Rome Mod. Take a look through this readme for more information regarding all the changes that have been made to the mod.

For the best playing experience it is advisable to play any of the Roman factions in any of the five campaigns. They have the toughest position since all barbarian factions are trying to invade their territories. All other factions are also playable, so playing another faction should give you an interesting playing experience.

Many thanks to: NodochiSam for the new strategy map; Lord Zimoa of Flanders for the ship pictures; Belisarius for the installer; and to Aurelian for the armhorse bug fix.

    I hope you have fun!

    Pericles

Here are the changes in the mod:

    VERSION 3.1

    1) All known bugs to date have been fixed in version 3.1.

    2) There are 32 NEW pictures for the Info_picture parchment pages.

    3) All ships, for all factions, now have era-appropriate info-pics such as Triremes, Biremes, etc.

    16) All parchment info screens have been edited for spelling, grammer, etc....

    ***********

*** INCREASING AND DECREASING GAME DIFFICULTY ***

    * REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL FILES BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES *

    1) You can increase or decrease the difficulty of any of the five campaigns in this mod by simply giving some or all of the other factions MORE MONEY. To do this, go to the following folder and click on the campaign file you want to play:

    C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\campmap\startpos

    2) For example, let's say you want to play the EARLY 311AD campaign. Open it and scroll down until you see this:

    //========================================
    //Starting Treasury
//Sets the amount of cash available to
//each faction at the start of the game.
//you can specify 4 values for the four
//difficulty levels in the order EASY,
//NORMAL, HARD and EXPERT. Specify only one
//value to start all difficulty levels with
    //the same size treasury.
//If you don't set this, the default
//is 2000 florins for all difficulty levels.

    SetTreasury:: FN_ROMANS 22000 22000 22000 25000

    3) Now, select the faction and the difficulty level you want to play. Let's say you want to play the Italians (Romans in game) on the HARD level. If you want to INCREASE the difficulty then INCREASE the amount of money every other faction gets at the HARD level.

    4) Once you have made the changes save the file, exit, and play the faction you selected in the game.

    5) You can do the same thing for any faction, in any of the campaigns. This provides virtually unlimited replayability.

    Have fun!

Is there a new version, or has v3.1 been the last one?

But in that era Hun empire disintegrated, didn't it?

    To all:

Finally there is installer of Fall of Rome v 3.1:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/15948040/FoR_3.1.exe.html

Amount of work done by Pericles is far from insignificant.

It contains all new features from previous versions + new portraits and things Pericles mentioned before.

When installing, select directly Total War folder.

And don't forget to enjoy one of the best mods for MTW ever made.

    Regards.

    Many, many thanks Belisarivs!

Yes, historically the Hun Empire went belly-up in the latter half of the 5th Century due to defeat at Chalons and Attila's death.

But the Huns in this campaign can change history.

    From wiki:

"Attila (c. 406 - 453) was the monarch of the Hun people from 434 until his death. His empire stretched from the Netherlands to the Ural river and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea (see map below). During his rule he was one of the most fearsome of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires' enemies: he invaded the Balkans twice, besieging Constantinople on the second invasion; he marched through Gaul (modern day France) as far as Orleans before being defeated at the Battle of Chalons; and he drove the western emperor Valentinian III from his capital at Ravenna in 452."

In the "Last Stand" campaign the Huns will come at you - so it's best to have at least two-6 star generals to face them. In my current game their empire is HUGE...

    Cheers!

I wonder if we can find a permanent home for this Mod?

    Maybe at 3D Downloads?

    Here is the link:

Where can we download this mod??

Great thanks to Pericles, Belisarius, and of course Maximus for this incredible work!!!

I can't wait to play it. FoR 3.0 is one of my favorite mods ever.

One little problem - where can I download it?

Is there a dial-up friendly location? I can get about 30 MB before my connection will time out (enough to get 3.0) but probably not to get 3.1 without a resuming friendly site.

    Thank you!!!!

Perikles ,,, Have you thought about taking on & finishing another project now that you have finished polishing up this classic with Belisarivs ?? There is one called Diadochi that would have been a ripper if it was finished ,, It seems a lot of the work has been started ...... just thought i'd mention it ,, cheers .. DTS .. BTW I'll be loading up 3.1 just as soon as my hardrive doubles in size and my connection speed triples ..
