    Early, Hard
In England, Wessex had 2 leaders with 5 acumen, Northumbria 1 leader with 5 acumen, Normany (or one of the other Southern provinces) 1 leader with 4 acumen. That and 2 more acumen for Chamberlain= 7,5,4,3,2,1.

And I didn't friggin' save the start I hit France, quit the game (expected an autosave).

This is the first time I have seen 5 acumen in a starting governor in the Catholic/orthodox provinces.

Other than that my best start was 5 leaders of 4 acumen as Byz.

Ok, you got really lucky that time. I almost never SEE 5 acumen governors (much less get 4 of them). The only ones with 5 acumen are more are either princes or heroes.

Did they have a lot of virtues/vices or did they just start out at 5 acumen? I have a sneaking suspicion that the game hardcodes non-royals/nonheroes at 4 acumen or less base stat unless they have a good virtue/vice.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I´ve also seen generals starting with a base of 5 acumen. i think i can remember it only occured when i restarted a faction after the first few turns because i had forgotten to switch to auto taxes and all my provinces routed.

so it´s perhaps kind of help from the ai for unable rulers

One was numerate, the others were just plain smart.

yeah, I never seen plain units get more than 4 acumen except maybe once or twice. but 4 of them? you are soo lucky.

that's a nice start to the campaign.

However, later on, I have really good ones. In my current byz campaign, 6* or 7* general (ex-heirs) with max dread and 6+ acumen are everywhere
