I figure I can win just about any battle on 'hard', unless I'm really outnumbered/ out-teched if I use the 'pause' button. So now I want to build my command skills without useing it. I thought assigning numerals to units would help, but its really a drawback - once the units run around a bit, I can't tell visually which is which (they don't carry labels, like Age of Empire), and recalling the number doesn't automatically change the camera viewpoint to show you the unit.

Any advise from all you live multi-player matches?

Keep them organized and know which unit is where, simply by remembering. Use smart grouping.

Assigning numbers doesn't help that much for organization. Keeping your units in groups with straight line formation is the best way. Double clicking on a unit will move the camera behind it.

Yep grouping is best for fast moving around... also you should know all the alt+ **** commands, they help.
