    Question

    Hi all

was just wondering about the age of rulers and princesses - rulers usually kick the bucket around 65 (vanillia MTW) and the girls around 30 in my experience. I just had a game with an 82 yrs old pope and a 37 yrs old princess (both when finally departing) - is that unusuall? (maybe the princess was a looker, but the pope?

The princesses actually don't die, but become old spinsters. The result is yet the same: they disappear from the game around their 30s.

jepp, they are to old to get heirs and are therefore out of service.

In a fairly recent thread at the COM, the pics of a princess at her 90s were posted.

lol in their 90's??? - that must have been a modded game (or they cheated with photoshop lol)

to the others - thanks for the repies and as I stated unmodded MTW not VI - I was just curious about age limits (my guess is that dying/spinstering is hardcoded and starts at 50/30 with increments each year - anybody with an idea to that?)

I think what they decided at the COM was that a princess will continue to live indefinitely as long as she is on a mission of some sort. If I remember correctly, what happened was, an AI princess was somewhere (Constantinople, maybe), and her mission was to marry a general. The general, it turned out, was stranded on one of those islands, Rhodes, Crete, or Cyprus -- and there was no port. No port means there's no way for the princess (or any other strategic unit) to get there, so the princess was left on the mainland, waiting for a port to be constructed. I think the princess stuck around at least until the age of 110. Not sure what happened from there.

Although it seems like a bug, this does have some use in the game for human players. I always got sort of nervous when my princess approached their upper-twenties. If they were in some inland province and I wanted them to marry one of my generals, I would be counting provinces to see how long it would take them to get there. But apparently, even if she's already 30 and is like 8 provinces away from her target, you can send her on that mission (by dropping her directly on the general/AI king you want her to marry) without worrying about her croaking on the way. I haven't tested this formally or anything, but it seems to work.

Exactly as the count describes but I think it was a player princes because the lucky general (marooned in Kypros) was a bribed one. The AI does bribe indeed but...anyway, weak evidence. But I'm pretty sure that the original poster confirmed no modding/potoshopping.

Stupid princess. Hasn't she ever heard the expression, Any old port in a storm?

What I find funny is that in the game your princess isnt available for marriage till the age of 15 when in medieval times I thought just about every princess was married by this time. Or would that cause a mature rating for marrying off 12 year old princesses of to an 16 to 18 year old child molester

Yes but is my understanding the marriage did not take place until they were around the age of 12

depending on my mood... I might go through king like water...
"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."
    ~ Niccolo Machiavelli
