How can you rate this as a bad point? They STATED there wasn't going to be an MP campaign That's like saying 'the only bad thing about this FPS is that it doesn't feature any resource management'

I'm interested in seeing how the knocking down of units is implemented. I'd be great to see routing cavalry running down their own units.

Fighting in these close quarters certainly changes things. Flanking is nearly out of the question and missile fire is also tough with so much cover.

I was guessing it would be like this but it's nice to have it confirmed.

    Great preview indeed

Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

Surprised - was I - to find that the battles of Bibracte and Carrahae both took place in 500AD.

Other than that - they were decent previews.

Looks good, apart from the following:

"There are 102 types of units in the game, including dogs, flaming pigs (useful for scaring elephants), and even screeching women or naked barbarians. ("There's plenty of barking mad people in the world," Simpson told us, explaining that these unusual units were actually a historical part of real battles.)"

The 'actually a historical part of real battles' was a bit misleading.

How so? The 'Screeching Women' and 'Naked Barbarians' actually fought in battles. Just look at the Celts at Mona island as an example... for the screaming women.

And as for Naked barbarians... well Look at my big barbarian Penis

Yea, looks like no one is going to move CA off of that one - regardless of what the historical record actually contains.

    I want this game
    Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot,
who had nearly fought the Dragon of Agnor,
who had nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol,
and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.

I am not sure if CA meant that every unit was historically accurate in that interview... He was probably just talking about the ones mentioned.

I like this part a lot:

Diplomacy has traditionally been very simple and not exactly the most useful tool. Quit your crying, Creative Assembly has heard your pleas. Diplomacy options will be much more complex for those that want to use them.

Now, when diplomacy has been initiated, players will find a large screen with plenty of bargaining chips. You can now trade goods and money, trade for rights of passage (even negotiate to move troops through enemy territory while not allowing them the same right), threaten nations, and more. The main point is that diplomacy is now a viable option. You won't have to stomp every nation to death in order to win.

Sneakier players will also be able to utilize spies to ferret information out to help in negotiations. Or if you like, assassins can be sent into to kill specific targets to weaken enemy defenses and either make them more susceptible to attack or maybe make them more agreeable to diplomatic offers.
Add to this a few good battles, and YAY another fine game

It's a minor point really and I can live with it.

"You can even see horses refuse a charge (such as into a prepared wall of spears), sometimes throwing the rider into a crowd of enraged foes. Then you can watch them turn to beat the horseless rider into the dirt. Fun."

*Does a spit-take* Whaaa? Sweet Is this true? Or another "MP Campaign"-esque farce???

The camp map icon has his flag roughly 1/2 full and so is the blue thingy.
