my Windows XP Pro OS is now keeping all tootips and menus open constantly unless i leftclick on them

obviously this is a very aggravating problem that must be solved

what is causing this to happen, and how do i fix it?

ie: if i rightclick on my connection icon in my system tray, the gray menu that pops-up will STAY THERE FOREVER instead of disappearing like it's supposed to

i need all this crap to disappear like normal. please help me

It happens to me sometimes. I guess related to memory shortage. Does it happen all the time or after long hours of work/play? If the latter is the case, a reboot will help.

Also, you may need to consider updating your display drivers. Go for the chipset manufacturer's, not the card's (ie nVidia, not Winfast for instance).

well i'll be darned, i rebooted and it fixed

the reason i thought it was a windows setting is cuz i was tinkering around and many of my settings suddenly automatically changed to what i hate. my setup was a 98SE visual emulation (as much as is possible) and for some reason i clicked the wrong thing and it all turned back to the horrid default XP Pro interface. as i was tinkering to fix it back, the non-disappearing menus started to occur

for now i will attribute this problem to memory leakage however i have another problem that is definitely NOT memory leakage:

some of my system tray icons are not appearing despite the fact that the apps associated with those icons are running AND i already have Use Personalized Menus diabled in Taskbar Options

    how do i fix this?

have you tried floating your cursor over the system tray?

    it doesn't update dynamically.

processes that get killed or started don't update.

    float cursor there for update.

the problem is that my system is booting with my ad-blocking software in the systemtray/start menu but i can not SEE the icon for it there despite the fact that it is running (and i want it to be running - i just need to be able to see the icon)

Navaros, all the problems you are having with your PC are giving me nasty flashbacks to the nightmares I had trying to fix my dad's PC. He had a host of irratating problems including a similar problem with system tray icons, but it was with WinME. It went away when I upgraded him to WinXP (better ask dad to make sure it is still okay...).

Anyway, I'll move this over to the Apothecary with the rest of your woes.
