Thank you very much for taking into consideration my humble ramblings. I have reinstalled replayed the mod again the other day and wrote down some ideas that I think could be implemented, as well as some of my hero ideas.
First, I don’t know about the rest of you but in order to receive enjoyment from a Medieval mod everything has to “feel” right. I have to feel passionate about the era in which I’m playing and be able to imagine as though these events are actually occurring. What I find helps maintain this feeling is professionalism and consistency within the game.
>>>>>>>>> Certainly. I decided to release it sooner to get some support - which was a good decision you will see in the next release
Here are some things that I feel should be adjusted:
Portraits: Generally speaking, the portraits we use now portray the style of dress for monarchs, military officers, and princesses quite well. New ones would always be nice though. We got pictures for the Poles and Russians, why not for other Europeans/Middle Easterners? I would be willing to hunt for some usable pictures to help in the effort. Also several units could use some new portrait sets. These include Protestant preachers (that bishop with the big pope hat just doesn’t seem quite right) and Jesuits (I don’t think the Cardinal picture does the trick).
>>>>>>>>> I have a very large number of these ready. These will be added.
In fact it is quite easy to link certian portrait to certain historical heroes - so I suggest searching for portraits of heroes you propose, I would prepare these anyway, but it would help me a little with this.
Strategy map pieces: Just as the portraits, I think that most of the pieces that are used now would be adequate. Changes would be better though. I think a new representation for monarchs and generals that it updated for the new era is due, as well as a new emissary (including the papal and Venetian) and possibly a new spy. The one piece that I feel definitely needs to be updated is the Jesuit, as I feel the Grand Inquisitor model doesn’t look quite right. Congrats on the Protestant preacher, he looks pretty good.
>>>>>>>>> The preacher wasn't my work. Generally I lack skills and we lack people ( currently only 2 involved, for months it was only me so it is not bad anyway, I guess
OF COURSE I want to have everything as good as possible, but... It would be good to find some support. I would like to see new castle pieces for example - not medieval castles anymore.
It would be nice to see new pieces have a corresponding picture in the build menu as well. The inquisitor that represents the Protestant preacher now looks a little weird.
>>>>>> Same as above. The release was half( or even worse)-finished, but I want to have it polished in the end even if it is only me who will play this mod.
Kings/Succession: This is a real issue. This era includes a number of oddities that cannot be represented with the Medieval engine, including female monarchs and republican governments. It looks like we will have to go without the likes of Elizabeth; there’s nothing that can be done, short of remaking the engine. As for the succession issue, certain countries (like Parliamentary England, Holland/Netherlands, and Switzerland) have elected leaders and should not rely on a Royal line. What I think can be done about this, though I possess no great knowledge of how Medieval’s engine works, is taking the HRE, renaming them (say to “English Parliament”), and giving the monarch a new title (say “Lord Protector”). Would this be possible to do?
>>>>>>>> In fact it is even more complicated... The problem is that original MTW factions have certain unknown traits which affect game directly, but it is hardcoded. The elected monarchs ( like in Poland) won't be added, this would mean additional 2-3 months of work with doubtful results, I believe.
I would like to concentrate on different things instead. It is probably the most complicated MTW mod anyway.
Buildings: I noticed there were some useless buildings in the mod that were left over from “time gone by.” The archery line of buildings has no purpose in the later eras and should not be an option, if that’s possible. Also, what’s up with the tax-collector line of buildings? They seem to produce very little profit and look quite odd. New pictures and descriptions would also be nice.
>>>>>>>>>> Certainly. The techtrees will be re-thought, but again it will take time and I am not sure if it will be ready for the release 2.0
Units: Some of the units need added text. It should be obvious which ones. There are also some slight grammatical mistakes in several of the current descriptions. I understand that English may not be the modder’s mother tongue, it’s not mine either. I would be willing to volunteer to check current and future descriptions and send corrections.
>>>>>>> The descriptions are written by me ( mostly), so I would appreciate any help.
Also, please change the name of the “Ironsides” English cavalry to “Parliamentarian Cuirassiers” or “New Model Army Cavalry.” “Ironsides” is a nickname that Prince Rupert gave to Cromwell that became associated with his troops.
>>>>>>>>> Can be done, but I am not sure other people will accept it...
