    …or a Duumvirate for that matter, w/ the new diplomatic model?? Here’s the scenario, you – as one of the Roman faction leaders - are becoming more powerful, so powerful in fact that the Senate orders the other 2 factions to attack you.

    Can you cut a deal with one or both and turn on the Senate and Rome?? Of course there would be an eventual falling out as you would “have to” – at some point – turn on your ally(ies) as anyone treacherous enough to cut a deal with you against Rome cannot be trusted

    Now that would be a Machiavellian level of intrigue worth experiencing.

    Actually I think the default setting is a triumvirate. Still some diplomatic options in regards to the other "warlords" and the Senate would be nice. For example your particular senator/warlord is becoming unpopular with the Senate in Rome, but clever diplomacy with the other two triumvirs staves off any attempt by the Senate to have you declared a criminal.
