New topic for Sicily game. Sign up and join the fun. First write up coming soon. People who signed up in Katank's thread get priority. Also, make sure you load Sicilianfirst from the download section and not Katank's game. Mine is dated May 11.

    From Katank's original post.

    Some rules:

    1. Role play your kings

    2. No unjustified aggression. The targeting of threathening factions is OK and so is your GA goal targets but no rampant conquests as it makes it no so fun.

    3. Listen to the Pope as much as possible and restrict yourself to defensive action against him.

Just downloaded it. I'll get to work on it ASAP.

I have a question- which of those rules take priority?

Like I'm not supposed to attack the Pope, but what if I have the VnVs Crazed Loon and Heathen?

Then attack the Pope. Roleplaying your king whenever possible more important than the other rules. That said, nothing need be taken to extremes here. If your guy is strange and an adulterer, I doubt that means he'll attack the Pope. He might assasinate one though.

Just finished, I'll have the writeup tomorrow. I'll try to focus on the realpolitik behind some of my moves. :)

Well done, RisingSun On the principle of first come, first served, I think Chimpyang is your successor. Maybe the Emperor and others on the old list can reconfirm their interest in this thread?

nice to see this going again.

I must say that in my idea, GAs are first, then roleplay.

so don't throw away a GA goal due to an unhinged loon.

well, he can suck on stuff he wants and paint servants whatever color he chooses but if he abandons a GA, then the God of the GA universe shall descend and chastise him greatly.

I did justify taking out threats.

I wasn't very self-disciplined and destroyed the Italians in my game.

good luck to all and look forward to the writeup as the Sicilians are one of the most interesting factions IMHO.

Not many, Ellesthyan - Chimpyang is next, then it's me and then you'll be after us. There are others who signed up for katank's thread but they need to confirm that they are still interested in this thread.

The King is dead Long live the King

King Adam, it has been said, was the first king of Sicily to ever attempt to modernize the military, and secure the Empire's borders from attack. It is rumored that even on his very first year of the throne, he improved the defenses of Valencia to include a fort and motte, as well as begin constructing workshops in which siege engines could be built by skilled craftsmen. And even then he began to form guilds of archers in Valencia and other provinces. He was often referred to as The Builder or The Great Builder, in his later years. But this was only a shadow of the thigns to come.

In the Year of Our Lord 1116, grave news reached the King on his throne- The filthy Germans were the richest faction in all the world. There was no doubt it was wealth stolen from his Italian brothers in the north, as the two factions were locked in a bitter war, the Germanic hordes holding the beautiful Italian cities of both Venice and Genoa. Terrible reports of German soldiers throwing babies in the air and spitting them on thier spears, as well as the rape of women, filtered through the countryside, and this outraged Adam to the point of him swearing vengeance against the evil men of the North. It would become his life's mission.

One year later, he lived up to his nickname and began the construction of a magnificent keep in Naples, to discourage the local peoples from rebellion. He also began the construction of several ship building facilities in Malta and Northern Africa.

In the year 1118 Anno Domini, the Lord showed his distaste at the overflowing Sicilian coffers by striking down the island with an epidemic of cholera. To placate the Almighty, Adam decided he must spend more money on buildings and training troops, as well as buying mercenaries. ( :) The news also reached the island that the filthy Byzantines were the most advanced nation in the world. Surely, this was a sign of their downfall, as all know that technology only distracts people from the work of the Lord. His Holiness must finally have heard of the German atrocities, and aptly called for an excommunication of the heathen dogs. This encouraged Adam, but he did not yet have the forces to strike the enormous German armies.

By 1119, spurred on by letters of encouragement from the Sicilian King Adam, the loyalists of Genoa revolted against their German masters, and succeeded in driving the pigdogs out of Italian land in the area, though Milan and Venice still festered with the Huns.

The world remained relatively quiet for the next few years, with Adam continuing his great works, until 1122. In this year, His Holiness the Pope had finally had enough of the evil Germans, and called for all of Christendom to Crusade against them in the name of God Almighty. King Adam needed no more reason to free the oppressed Italians, who by now had again lost Genoa. But sadly the facilities needed to successfully organize and lead a crusade were lacking. But Adam immediately ordered the construction of such necessary buildings.

By the next year, the mighty Sicilian Navy had opened up the ports of the Holy Land to our trade, and the money began to come in in earnest.

In 1125, the necessary chapter house was completed, and a great celebration was held. Adam immediately ordered the planning of an invasion of German-held Italy. However, this would take four years, and Adam did not have that long.

In 1126, a beautiful princess of Novgorod married into the royal Sicilian line.

In 1127, much to King Adam's dismay, His Holiness the Pope passed away, declaring all prior excommunications null and void. But Adam decided to continue his planning of a holy war against the Germans, just in case they should infuriate His Holiness again.

1128 was a very quiet year, the only significant news being that King Adam was adored by all his people, and his subjects basked in the happiness of his reign. Peaceful construction of ships continued as it had the past decade, stretching Sicilian coffers to the brink, but returning ever increasing profit from far away lands. Adam also continued a large buildup of men at arms and feudal spearmen to compliment his great armies of royal knights.

By 1129, the people of Sardinia rebelled against their Italian overlords, and, being the peaceful man he was, Adam decided to step in and take up the regency of Sardinia. However, the locals disputed his rightful claim, and met his army on the field of battle. They were vanquished with little trouble, and Adam had the ringleaders led away, never to be seen again.

The Year of Our Lord 1130 was a happy and fruitful year, as the beautiful Princess Cecilie married our Prince Aodh in a glorious ceremony.

By 1132, the Germans had again been proclaimed the richest nation in the world. Adam is reported to have remarked, From the coffers of our brothers, they steal their wealth like rats on a ship

But this was not enough of an offense yet- The following year, the treacherous barbarians dared to ask for an alliance King Adam, offended, sent their emissaries back, withotu any belongings nor dignity; he had their fingers cut off, explaining that he had, caught them stealing from the royal treasury.

Finally, in the Year of Our Lord 1137, the gracious King Adam launched his valiant crusade against the evil Germans, first with a great naval victory on the Adriatic Coast. Sadly, he died shortly thereafter, his only comfort hearing that his sons aboard the Crusade had arrived safely in Venice, and his second invasion army of mercenaries had captured Provence without a fight. The Germans, and their Mightiest army in the world put up no fight anywhere. The King, in his dying words, ordered the siege engines from Sardinia brought in to Venice to assault the city as soon as possible.

The King is dead Long live the King

Well done, RisingSun Please post here when you have uploaded the savegame. As Katank says, the information on how to do this is available in a sticky in the throne room. The direct link to the uploader is:
    http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Up.../pbmupload.php
Just hit browse, select your file and then hit upload. Couldn't be easier. Make sure the cpg file is zipped or in winrar format first though.

OK, I may be treading on Demon of Light's shoes, but I think it is time to formalise the list:

    Demon of Light
    King Adam I, 1087-1112

    RisingSun
    King Adam II, 1113-1137

    Chimpyang
    Current King of Sicily

    SimonAppleton

    Ellesthyan

    TrickyLady

I had not realised that Demon of Light had actually played the first reign - any chance of a write-up? Looking at the savegame, it was pretty active with the kingdom expanded in various directions and yet still at peace at the end.

It would be fun if we give kings titles (eg King Adam I the Great or whatever). I propose that successors name their predecessors - so RisingSun can you think of something to call King Adam I and Chimpyang, can you find a suitable title for Adam II?

We have a decent sized list, so let's try and keep some momentum going here.

Uploaded as King of Sicily 1138. It's a .rar format.

Good luck. And I played past my king after saving, so a word of warning you can work into your writeup by making it my ghost or something coming to tell you- Watch out for the Byzantines and Spanish. Yes, both.

Can I resign up after the current lineup is done? This was really fun, and since we have a lack of participants....

Recycling the list is better than letting a PBM die. But sometimes more people sign on as the game progresses. If that happens, it's probably better to give the newcomers priority. Otherwise things may start looking a little incestuous and deter participation.

BTW, there are other PBMs on the boil you could sign up for, RisingSun. For example, Italy has no one on the list at the moment.

Of course the newcomers get priority, but I wouldn't exactly call it incestuous.

may get bad vices as the game reeks of a single player's style.

perhaps reek isn't the right word...

it's still nice to have new blood regardless.
